Question about Dell OptiPlex 360 Desktop Computer

1 Answer

Get black screen on reboot on my optiplex 360 by dell.can't reboot in safe mode or last good configuration etc. Used the recovery disk and went thru all checks no problems found on test. Don't have a current back up copy for files on my computer. Is there a way to get in to do back up or a program i can download from my laptop that will allow me to get into my desktop and run a virus scan to see if that is the issue?

When i boot my computer, it displays JPRGI is compressed. what does this mean

disk error which generally means your disk has failed. You need to get your data off it if it is not backed up. You will have to replace the disk.
A local computer shop might, just might, be able to install it into a second computer and read the data.

Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer
If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen. Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option: Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice. Select safe mode with command prompt then type in chkdsk/f/r which will scan for and and attempt repair of bad files and bad sectors on hard drive You should have no input while chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your computer

Enter the new password and the password is changed if this fails you will need to Select safe mode with networking to download you could download all of these or just one save them to a usb drive for later use if one fails to remove the password Windows Password Recovery Basic http://majorgeeks.com/CmosPwd_d239.html A CMOS BIOS password recovery tool Editors note: This tool should only be used by experienced computer users. Please see the enclosed read me if you would like to run it from Windows. Windows start up screen keeps replaying on screen and never loads

This is a very short description without much detail, but you have a corrupted driver that loads, fails and causes the system to reboot.

Try tapping F8 while booting up and starting until you get to a menu list.

Try "restoring" if you can get to "Safe Mode" to last known good configuration

Sorry for the basic questions, but I need to know more about the symptoms.

What do you see happening on the screen when you boot? What stage does it get to before it goes blank? From your description, if you were able to go through the recovery disk process, your monitor is presumably working.

You can try creating a boot disk on your laptop (assuming you have a cd or dvd writer on the laptop), and booting the desktop from that. You will need to set the desktop to boot from removable disc rather than internal hard disk - to do that you need to enter bios settings (press F2 while booting) and change the boot sequence.

To create a boot disk on your laptop go to

http://www.hirensbootcd.net/

and download, then copy to a CD. This CD is bootable and has a variety of diagnostic tools including virus scans. Put it in your desktop, after changing the boot sequence, and boot from that. You PC will then start up without using Windows and you can perform various diagnostics from there.

For more detailed instructions please post a reply here and I will try to help.

have you tried booting in safe mode? When it starts press F8 and select "Safe Mode" or "Last Known Good Configuration.". On that 10th try you do get it to come up make sure you install all updates for your computer. Then you can put int he Optiplex disk from Dell and run some diagnostics.

HELP!! (dell precision 340) im getting 4 screens when i turn on m

Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatingly tapping on F8 while in process of rebooting and then select "last known good configuration". If that fails reboot again to safe mode and select safe mode with command prompt and in the command prompt type "chkdsk /f /r " <enter>

If that doesnt work do place your Windows CD into the Cd-Rom, reboot and select option "Repair"
