COMPAQ presario cq57 has a blue screen and white curser

This means nothing specific, try to load Last known good configuration, by holding F8 key right after power on, until it shows Windows boot options. You should also check memory, hard disk drivers and viruses, but this is much longer explanation, so ask if needed.

I got this computer off side of road and can't get windows to load it's try's then the screen goes black . here is what happens . I turn it on the screen comes up black it asks what I would like to do ?...

The first screen (start windows normally etc) appears because the computer ahs not shut down normally before. Since you choose to start windows (normally or last known...) and the Windows logo comes up with the loading bar, this means that the computer is starting to boot. Some hardware or software (windows) problem appears and the boot never ends. Possible reasons: motherboard failure or hard disk failure. A good idea is to re-install windows to check the results. Mention that in case of reinstalling the windows, during the procedure choose to reformat the hard disk so it will be checked for errors and reported.

My presario m2000 will turn on but comes up with a screen

This is happening because you're not turning the computer off properly, make sure everytime you turn your computer off you go to
Start menu
Shut down.

You need to select start windows normally.
Safe mode will help you with some otherthings
just make sure of turning the pc off properly ;)

Two vertical lines on my compaq presario (M2000) laptop

Well, since the line disappear when the screen saver comes on, I"m led to believe that all the hardware side of the equation is OK. To put it simply, if there was a malfunction in the video (chances are) it would affect that too.

I would update (most likely available as nobody usually does this) the firmware for your video card. So identify the card EXACTLY, from documentation, or from the build list on the manuf. website, goto the manufacturer, say, ATI, and find the firmware there, where you will also find instructions to install it.

Then, just to be sure, I would update the video driver for Windows, in a similar manner to the instructions above.

If, despite all the above you still have a problem, then its time to get the computer serviced.

Good luck,

Erik.

Choose "Last Known Good Configuration" and enter. It will probably will resolve the issue. If issue persist please post for further assistance.

Getting a blue screen on Compaq Presario M2000 Laptop

Blue Screen of Death - BSoD Also known as a bluescreen or bugcheck in Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, and XP, BSoD is short for Blue Screen of Death and is a full blue screen error message .

MS-DOS edit command help edit c:\autoexec.bat = This would look at the autoexec.bat; However, if the file is not found, you will have a blank blue screen.

Good Luck! Read and follow instructions/Please dont for get to Vote/Thank You.

Computer shut down ..wont restart

what has happened is your hard drive as failed and that is why it shut down and then gave the unmountable boot volume. You could try repairing windows using your XP cd but it's a new hard drive i recon.
