Epson C1100 E524 service required.

For my Epson C1100, I have just replaced an original Epson yellow cartridge with a third party compatible cartridge. The printer worked fine for a few days with this cartridge, but now I am getting an E524 error message that requests a service. I've searched the internet and believe that the error means 'Toner density malfunction (Low density)'. Can anyone advise on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance!

SOURCE: what is service E524

This means the output value of the ADC sensor is below the required value.

Possible parts that caused the error:

  • Photoconductor Unit
  • SENSOR ASSY ADC
  • Toner Cartridge K
  • Toner Cartridge Y
  • Toner Cartridge M
  • Toner Cartridge C
  • HARNESS ASSY ADC
  • SENSOR HUM & TEMP
  • HARNESS ASSY MAIN
  • ROS ASSY
  • PWBA MCU
  • LV/HVPS
Head for the ADC Sensor assy first. It's the sensor assembly in the rear door below the fuser unit. Check that it is clean and clear of bits of paper etc.

try a replacement Photo Conductor Unit - even an old worn out one will do, just to see if the error clears. If it does you know your PCU needs replaced.

Much more than this and you will need an engineer to look at it as The High and Low voltage systems are not to be toyed with. Similarly the ROS unit if dead will mean the machine is beyond economical repair.

If you wait until the colour has completely run out, you will see a message to that effect, and the correct cartride will be presented. If you wish to change before this:

1. On the printers' control panel, press the "right" button (labeled no. 3) once and then the "down" button (labeled no. 4) until you see the RESET MENU.
2. Press the "right" button (labeled no. 3) once.
3. Press the "down" button (labeled no. 4) until you see "CHANGE TONER X" appear on the screen (where X is either C, M, Y or K, Cyan. Magenta, Yellow or Black).
4. Press the "right" button (labeled no. 3) once. The printer will rotate the toner carousel to the correct position for you to change.
5. Open the printer door and change the toner as normal.

SOURCE: Epson Aculaser C1100 - E511

The E511 error comes when you power up the printer. The noise of the "warm up" is the black rubber transfer belt on the Photo Conductor Unit spinning through one rev to check for a little silver square on the edge of the belt. You can turn the belt manually to see this square.

If this square is not found, Epson will tell you to throw away an otherwise fine PCU.
Solution:
a) Remove PCU and check the transfer belt for the square. Clean WITHOUT alcohol.
b) check the sensor that reads this square - a small black oblong "camera" in the heart of the printer on the LHS. Clean.
c) If the square is damaged, replace with a piece of tin foil. Superglue on carefully, making sure all the edges are glued but not your fingers!

You don't need to put the new square in exactly the same place, just above or below on the belt is fine.

Did you use Epson genuine cartridges, or third party cartridges?
if you used genuine, carefully clean the gold contacts on the printer that mate with the contacts on the carts.
if non- genuine, they 3rd party manufacturer may not be providing compatible codes to the printer. Send them back for refund.

Where can i find a epson Aculaser Y dev unit from please

The Y toner cartridges are still being produced by Epson. However not many stores in UK stock them. They are readily available on eBay. You will have a choice of originals or compatibles, and a choice of standard or high capacity cartridges.
I normally stick to originals, and pay around 20 UK pounds for standard and 40 UK pounds for high capacity ones.
Compatibles are about half of those prices, but I have found wide variation in quality.
If you are not using a lot, then originals are preferable.
Let me know if I can be of further help

Epson NX125 not recognizing a new cartridge

If that is a non-Epson refurb, the place that you got it from might not have refilled/reset properly. Some inkjet carts require a "third-party static reset" of some sort to override the manufacturers built-in protection. I have been using House of Toners on eBay for a few years now, they seem really good.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

The message E 511: Service Required is commonly due to the Photo Conductor Unit's tabs getting stuck. So the first thing we need to do is to remove the PHoto Conductor Unit. Here are the step to remove the Photo Conductor Unit off of your EPSON Aculaser C1100.

After removing or ultimately replacing the photoconductor unit, please follow the step by step giude on how to remove the photoconductor unit in reverse order.

Wrong Colour Cartridge Available

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.

Printer won't recognise new toner cartridge

Is the new cartridge made by Epson? Also check the contacts on the cartridge and in the printer where the cartridge contacts mate. Sometimes there is foreign material that blocks the signals. It's also possible that you have a defective cartridge. Check with the place you bought it.

Ensure that you are replacing the cartridge with a Brother LC41M ("M" denotes magenta) cartridge instead of replacing it with a "knockoff" (third-party equivalent) or refilling the cartridge. Some third-party inks -- found in many knockoffs and ink refill kits -- do not work well with their intended cartridges and/or print heads. I discovered this the hard way, and then verified it with representatives of HP, Canon and EPSON.

If you have tried two or more actual LC41M cartridges and still receive the Near Empty error message, your unit might need service. Contact Brother Customer Service for further troubleshooting -- see page i of the Users Manual. (Opening the Users Manual with this link requires a PDF viewer such as Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader.)
