Check to see if your user login has Administrative previleges.
Safe Mode may not give you rights to install programs.

When Windows was first setup a user account was setup as well as a administrator login, if no password is installed on the user account, then when you bootup, Windows does not show a User login unless there is more than one User account.

The single user account normally has supervisor privileges unless it got accidentally changed.

Try pressing F8 as you bootup from the Windows, then from Advance Options Menu select "Last Known Good Configuration" and press Enter.

With luck Windows will start normally and not in Safe Mode, then you should be able to install Acrobat.

I have been into user accounts and checked everything which appears ok.

I have been into Mcafee security and changed some restrictions but to no avail

F8 button does not appear to function even though it appears on reboot as to be

    used for advanced settings.

    Hope you can help.

I assume you have installed an earlier version of Acrobat reader.

The only thing I can suggest is to remove the earlier version of Acrobat. Go into Control panel - Add/Remove Program and remove Acrobat. Then Re-boot your computer and then Download Acrobat onto your hard disk, then install the latest version of Acrobat Reader that you had downloaded onto your hard disk.

    If this doesn't work.

Next try running your virus program - you may have a virus infection.

Next - I think you may have a problem with the Windows registry, try downloading Registry Cleaner, install it on your computer and run this program and hopefully it may fix your problem.

If all fails then I suggest you format the hard drive and install Windows again, plus the computer's device drivers and your programs. Don't forget to backup your data first.

I know this is a pain but sometimes it is quicker than trying to chase an elusive problem and you will have a nice clean error free computer.

Many thanks for your reply. I have tested via Mcafee for Virus and none found

I think it might be Registry and will give it a go.

I Will be in touch Thanks. Michael Mulcahy

I tried to remove old version of acrobat but no go error it said.

downloaded uniblue registry cleaner which found 25 system errors

and 200 userrelated errors. rebooted and tried to download

acrobat reader, took some time, I thought we were there as it

went through the whole process except at last minute it said

    safe mode unable to download.

So it looks like i got to reinstall windows.

unless you have any other ideas.

    Sorry Michael no further ideas,

As I said before that if my suggestions didn't work, then I suggested a Windows re-install.

You can spend a lot of time trying to fix your problem/s and may still not resolve all your computer problem/s.

I have fixed quite a few computers with various system problems and found if I can't fix them in less than 1 hour, then a Windows re-install is the quickest and best solution.

Good Afternoon -
Direct from Adobe, they state that versions 9 and above are compatible with Windows 7, and any versions 8 or prior are not supported and updates to make compatible will not be released. There are two solutions, one that may work and one that will definitely work. The first is to try to install the program under Windows XP compatibilty, natively on Windows 7. To do this, find the executable for installation, right click and select properties. On the comptability tab, click the check box that says: Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows XP (Service Pack #) from the drop down, and proceed to install, running the installer as Administrator. The other guaranteed way is if you have Windows 7 , any version other than starter, you can enable Windows XP Mode which creates a virtual PC of XP on your machine and integrates the program references into Windows 7. Details on this can be found:

Try unstalling and re-installing Adobe reader. Hope it would fix the problem with acrobat.
Else, you may download latest version of acrobat reader and install it. the problem could be with the file. it has nothing to do with the operating system.

Hope it helps. let me know if any clarification is needed

Try running Malwarebytes free version from a usb drive if possible. Once you download it onto the drive rename it from MBAM.exe to winlogon.exe (a virus may be the prolem and no virus will look twice at winlogon as it is a system process), then boot to safe mode and send malwarebytes to desktop (create shortcut), intall update and run full scan).Follow instructions for getting rid of malware.
If that doesn't work, try bringing up task manger (you can try this first but just reboot into safe mode before installing malwarebytes)and click processes tab look for and end any Adobe processes
and also any updating processes (they will comeback after reboot). then try downloading your Adobe reader. Good luck.

If this helps you resolve your problem, please
consider giving a good rating and a quick thanks
or good job.It will help me as well Thank you.

Cannot use reader 8.0,cannot remove it or install 9.0

oddly enough, you may find that updating the version 8.0 you have to 8.x will then allow you to remove it (or it will work correctly) can you open the reader manually in the programs list? if so open it, then go to help and check for updates. apply the updates. If they work you should be in good shape.
