No matter the size of the chip 4GB or 16GB...I only get 10 minutes of recording time

What make and model camera? Ten minutes total recording time or ten minutes per clip?

There are two possible reasons why the clip length may be limited.

1) Some cameras limit the file size of any one video clip. Try reducing the resolution and see whether you can record longer.

2) In some parts of the world video cameras are taxed at a higher rate than still cameras. By limiting the length of a video clip, it's possible to avoid having a camera classified as a video camera.

For further details and limits, see your manual. If you require further assistance, please add a comment to this question and specify the make and model of your camera.

HOW DO YOU EXTEND THE FILMING LENGHTH IN A fUJIFILM FINEPIX S3380 CAMERA

The S3380 is a still camera with limited video capabilities, not a true video camera. No matter how big the memory card, a single movie clip cannot exceed nine minutes.

This limitation is due to economics, not technical. In some countries video cameras are taxed at a higher rate than still cameras. A still camera that cannot record for ten minutes is considered to be a still camera, not a movie camera, and is thus taxed at the lower rate.

How often do you see something in a movie lasting ten minutes, shot continuously from the same viewpoint with the same camera? Usually movies are made by splicing together shorter clips.

If you really need to be able to film longer clips, like a family member performing in a play or a concert, then you need a true video camera.

My hd videos are choppy when downloaded to my computer - what size memory card do I need?

What program are you using on the computer to play the video?

If you're playing the video from the camera, try copying the video to the computer and playing it from there.

Can't get full use out of 8GB SD card.

There is no problem. The camera can only create video clips up to 4GB in size. You can record two long clips, but no single clip can exceed 4GB.

I have a DCR-HC42, when I connect it to my laptop thru Firewire (I have Vista). The size of the video is too high. How to download the video from the camcorder in a normal size.

Video downloaded from your camcorder is in .AVI format. One cassette size in AVI format is around 14 gb. Video cannot be downloaded in smaller size. After tranferring video to your computer, you can save or convert to any other format of smaller size eg mp4 or DivX or Xvid.

Believe your computer's hard drive may be formatted to FAT32, thus may have problems with large multi-GB files. Unfortunately hard-drive partitioning is not my specialty, but it may be possible to partition a NTFS section on your hard drive to allow downloading of your video? Or maybe find a friend's computer who has a NTFS formatted hard drive?

Can't transfer video from Camera to the laptop

I phoned canon with a similar problem.
Poss reasons: 1 A clash between codecs - try removing as many codecs as poss then installing something like Ace mega codecs (this did not work for me). 2. Has the card been formatted on the computer ? I have since reformatted my card using low level format option on the camera. It has worked fine with 2 video clips I tried today - but I still cannot play my earlier problem files.

The amount of memory required depends on the amount of compression. 1 GB is good enough for about 25 minutes
of a premium quality DVD movie, and several house of
reasonable quality mpeg video

In terms of short video clips from an hand held digital mini
camera, the 1 GB Flash card is plenty, providing the camera
uses an efficient compression algorithm.

Problem downloading a video file from Canon Powershot S3 IS

Have you tried inserting your card into a USB memory card reader? simply take your card out and plug it in. The PC will read it as a drive and it's a simple drag and drop .
