Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have 10 year old GE True Temp electric oven which does not work and gives F7 error and beeps and does not stop until I switch off at the circuit breaker. Is it worth fixing? It may be not worth replacing the expensive control panel if that is what is wrong. What brand & model can replace this single range oven and how expensive? There is a gas cook top on the top separate from this range.

According to GE appliance website http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/faqs/faq_ranges.htm

F7 This code usually means that there is a problem with the keypanel. Many times, it means the keypanel needs to be replaced

This used to be a very regular problem with some model of GE ovens.

refer http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/ge-hotpoint/2655-ge-profile-oven-f7-error-messages.html

Looking at the messages on this forum, some people have worked out a cheap solution. But considering the postings are a bit old, I don't think you will get any reply if you contact the person.

However, there is a solution posted on Fixya.com last year which you could try..

"Please, don't replace anything, stop letting people rip you off, try this! The insulation in the ribbon cable is poor. The conductors in the cable are crossed. The ribbon cable is actually two ribbons pressed together, and the conductors between the two cables are shorting or becomming crossed. Lift the two cables apart, place a piece of paper between them, fold the edges of the paper over the cable so that it does not slip out, and make sure to shove it all the way down to where it will meet the plastic display panel housing. There, problem solved. " ..turbo247.
I am assuming you are able to find the ribbon cables connecting the keypad to the main controller. If not, post a comment with the actual Model number of your oven (true temp is only a family) and will try to find the location of the cable.

Hope this helps. A new Oven should set you back about $500-$600 but then it should fit into your existing space.

MY microwave is giving me an error code F7 - call for service

This is all i could find on this error, Its alot to check. Microwave will not operate (cook). F7 error code
appears on the display.
Electrical circuit interruption between L1 and Neutral in
the microwave inverter circuit.
Possible reasons:
1. Check door, hinge and cavity front alignment and adjust
as needed.
2. Check the operation of all interlock switches.
3. Check over temperature protector for the magnatron.
4. Check all Cavity Thermostats for closed circuit.
5. Unplug the oven for at least 40 seconds. If this solves
the problem
A. Check the Cooling Fan for proper operation or
blockage
B. Check the resistance of the magnetron thermostat.
It should be 0 Ohms, replace if necessary.
6. Check that the control cable to the 1100 watt inverter
is properly connected to plug P2 on the display PCB
& Adjust or Reconnect
7. If interlock switches operate correctly, replace 1100W
inverter.
8. If problem persists, replace control assembly

The oven (10+ years old GE True Temp double wall oven) beeps and displays an F7 error message. We can temporarily stop it by pushing the Clear button, but it starts again in a few seconds. We don't know...

I'm a GE tech, the F7 means there is either a stuck button on the keypad or relay on the board behind the keypad. Shut off the breaker. Remove the 3 screws under the keypad and lift the panel a bit to remove it. Lay it face down on the top rack and disconnect the ribbon cable. Turn power back on and if f7 goes away the problem is in the keypad. If f76 returns it's in the control. We typically replace both together because usually if you replace 1 it will come back later then be the other part.

My GE JES1656 will not work. Check the fuses and nothing blown on the panel. Tried other appliances in the same outlet and they work. Microwave oven is about a year old...any fixes??

Probably the "oven temp/flame sensor" if you make microwave popcorn and the vents on the left hand side are restricted. Gets pretty hot. This part cannot be reset and has to be replaced.

You have a faulty keypad. You could probably special order this part from a local appliance parts supply store for 50-60$ or purchase a new microwave.

Ge profile or true temp oven keep showing a f7 and eb notice

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.
Otherwise, F7 usually indictaes a stuck key on the keypad.

You may choose to replace the keypad yourself or have us help.

GE SpaceMaker Microwave suddenly stops while heating

I had same problem last week. My GE JVM1650 Spacemaker stopped after a few seconds of heating. Owned 16 months, manufactured Jan 2005. It was the magnetron, which was replaced yesterday. The magnetron has a 10-year warranty, but I had to pay $161.00 for labor by a GE technician. The call-out fee was waived at my request. I don't know what that amount would have been, but I can't believe the $161.00 for what was about 1/2 hour labor once diagnosed. Good Luck!
