Question about Lite On LVC-9016G DVD Recorder/VCR

Invalid disc reading

No matter what DVD disc I use, the recorder says "invalid disc" or just "no disc". I tried running an opti disc lens cleaner and it won't even run that - just gives me the same "invalid" or "no disc" reading. Any suggestions other than replace the unit?

I had a problem with a Lite-On that had been working fine then stopped reading any disc--sometimes it would go through the motions of recording if a disc was in and a timed recording was due to start. Also had "Invalid Disc" msgs. After recording it would not read the disc. I tried a Philips DVD/CD disc cleaner with no luck. A google search led me to find the a dirty laser would cause this. I removed the cover and with a clean lint free cloth I used rubbing alcohol to clean it and it has worked fine since. While I had the cover off I took the unit to my garage and used an air compressor to blow all the dust out of the unit and cleaned the laser again just in case. That was about 6 weeks ago and it works fine. My unit has a cooling fan that I think contributed to the dust problem.

I have successfully made hundreds of play-able DVDs from my home video using this Liteon LVC9016G. Overall I like this machine although it is very quirky.

In my experience the only DVD that can work is SONY DVD+R 120min / 4.7GB. NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK RIGHT. I have used some DVD-R: You can record on it since everything appears to work. The got-ya is you cannot play it at all. I am sick of this because I have re-used some tape but ended up with useless DVDs! Take my word for it, I have tried many media like Maxwell or Verbatin. These "other brands" are fine on the computer but not on this machine. I don't know what this machine can detect and see the differences in the media. Give this media a try.

Do I need a dvd cleaner and what kind

Hello
DVD cleaner is a kind of CD, which will have cleaning pads sticked on it. When we insert the disc in any disc player, this cleaning pad will come in contact with the lens of the reading head. As the cleaning CD spins at hing speed inside the disc player, it will wipe out all the dirt and dust, if accumulated on the lens. Thus cleaning of laser pickup lens occurs.
This cleaning disc can be boutght from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town. Even after using this disc, your DVD player does not reads any disc, its laser pickup assembly is faulty, and should be replaced. OK.

Invalid disc reading

I find that I get the Invalid disk message most likely when I use a DVD-R disk. So now I use only DVD+R for this machine. I have also read somewhere that the problem could be solved by using a Laser Lens Cleaner Cleaning disk.

Recording Fall, Invalid disk

Try using Sony +R discs. or +RW's are good, any brand as long as they are +'s. For some reason alot of +R discs brands will not work, I wait and just get Sony +R or the +RW's on sale and stock up and I have no more troubles. Mine is the 05MU. The ZU is a little strange with the RW but will still record. Hope this helps.

LiteOn LVC - 9016G dvd recorder Problem.

throw it in the trash- I got 1 from costco, liked it so much, bought another a week later. First one started giving me the "invalid" msg, 2nd one did the same 1 wk later, so I guess they're programmed to do so after so many hours after being plugged in. Too bad, cuz it was the easiest to use of 5 previous models I tried. Their easyguide onscreen menu was the greatest, plus the status of time, pause & recording indicator, which you could turn on or off as needed, were very useful.
A real shame to have to throw in the trash. Won't ever buy another thing from them.
