Question about Dometic RM2652 Refrigerator

Dometic RM2662 won't light on gas

Hi, We have a Dometic RM2662 refrigerator in our 2007 Bigfoot trailer. Our unit was under the recall and we had the work done by a local dealer. They could not get the unit to light on the gas setting, but it worked fine on electric. They recommended replacing the main circuit board. Just after we brought the unit home, we discovered that the converter had malfunctioned and had cooked the battery. They decided that this was probably the cause of the problem as this would keep the flame from lighting. We have replaced the converter with a Xantrex True Charge 2 charger, redone our battery setup and, electrically, everything is peachy. The refrigerator, however, still will not light on gas. We have even tried lighting is manually, as instructed by them (didn’t know you could do this!). Do you have any ideas? Should we change out the brain? Any ideas would be appreciated. Bruce R. SOURCE: Dometic rm 2612. Shuts down on gas.

Ron;
Check the burner assembly. 1 screw, remove the sheet metal cover and clean it. The burner collects rust. This is the likely. Other issues would be the gas pressure usually checked with a manometer. Should 11" of water column. If your furnace works good then the gas pressure is probably ok. Also could have a faulty ignitor which sends a miliamp signal back to the circuit board. Check the burner first, after that leave the cover off and turn the fridge on. Watch the ingnitor attempt to lite the burner. Be sure the spark is going to the burner and not shorting out on the sheet metal it is mounted in. If it is shorting to the frame the ignitor needs replacing.
Thanks for using Fixya

SOURCE: norcold rv refrigerator freezer

Make sure the thermister is attached firmly to the fins in the back. The boards on a Norcold can be reset a service center familiar with this process is your best bet. It takes disconecting the board and then shorting it out best to leave it to some one who is familiar.

SOURCE: dometic rv refrigerator

I was having the same problem as sallyfixit. After the recall on the Dometic RM2652, I was problem shooting to fix it. I found that you should check the wiring on the thermocouple to make sure it is wired correctly. If the on light, the check light and the interior light is still working but not cooling, replace the thermostor. This fixed my problem.

SOURCE: dometic rm2852 does not run on gas

So, the solution was simple but not obvious: the heat probe and the igniter are one and the same item, and all we had to do was bend the probe/igniter closer to the burner. After we did that the refrigerator started to behave properly.

Oddly enough, the repair manual for the refrigerator shows a igniter with a heat probe above it: the is not how the refrigerator is built.

Since your unit is an AC and Gas unit, you need to find out if it works on gas in order to make a good diagnosis.

But from your description, it sounds like your DC power is not at the unit.

Dometic Voluntarily Expands Refrigerator Recall

Dometic recently expanded its recall on a population of two-door refrigerators. The original recall included some two-door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. The new recall focuses on models manufactured between June 2003 and September 2006.

To see if your unit is on the recall list & what to do, try the link below.
If your unit is on the list, DO NOT run your refrigerator on propane until the kit is installed

My Dometic trailer refridgerator is warm but freezer is freezing.

Brandi4723,

Unfortunately, you have a bad cooling unit in your refrigerator. Then ammonia smell means that you have a leak in the unit. TURN THE FRIDGE OFF!!! Do not use the fridge on AC or Gas until you have the cooling unit replaced or buy a new fridge. Depending on the model number and serial number of the fridge, it may be under recall by dometic and you might be able to have it repaired for free. If you will provide me with the model number, serial number and the serial number of the cooling unit (found on the outside of the unit in the fridge compartment, lower tank of cooling unit), I can then tell you the pricing of the repairs or whether it is under recall.

Again, TURN THE FRIDGE OFF and do not use it...RISK OF FIRE!!!!

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Why is it difficult to light our dometic refrigerator, when using it on propane?

Hi: In my travel trailer I find it is easier to light my Dometic if I bleed the lines by starting my stove top. It uses a lot more gas to get lit and floods the lines with propane. Your fridge uses such a small amount of gas it takes a long time to bleed the line to it. Don't focus on just the oven.... run any propane appliance on the way to it first. I hope this helps, Jeff
