Question about HP LaserJet 1020 Printer

Re-installation of printer software won't complete

We are really stuck with this problem that came out of nowhere. It feels like we did everything right to try & troubleshoot, but still no printer luck!

A document is sent to print, but nothing happens. The printer icon shows it is printing, and the document is still in the print queue but it simply does not print. When the document is sent to the printer and indications are that it is online, but when you open up the printer dialog box, the printer shows offline.

Here's what we tried and what happened:

1. Turned printer off/on; unplugged/plugged in power cord & USB cable.
Rebooted computer.
2. Still not printing.
3. Checked that correct printer was installed, and that the correct printer driver is still installed.
4. Uninstalled the printer, reinstalled it again. Rebooted computer.
5. Uninstalled and reinstalled the software CD. Rebooted computer.
6. The installation said "finishing installation, set up is checking for installed printers", then it asked me to plug in, power on the printer and plug in USB cable.

The program would then go back to copying files all over again, but it would always get hung up at the "Plug in printer, power on and plug in USB cable" command.
It would not recognize that I had already done that.

Are some of the system files corrupted?

Any ideas on what is going wrong with this printer? It has been so reliable up to now!

I'd say you may have a corrupted system file..had your computer tuned up lately?

It sounds like a software glitch. I would begin looking for new programs, and possibly a new system for the tickets entirely.

Canon pixma mp170 won't print. says printer is offline, but everything is connected and power is on.


Mercury is retrograde -- really!

I am assuming this is wireless? (but not enough details!!!)

Try to RE-boot your system (by shutting it down completely for at least a full 60 seconds or more!) to see if it will pick up the printer.

You can also try to work it from the main software control for the cannon printer.

My MP470 worked perfectly yesterday and this morning it won't print. I send the command and it thinks for a minute and then it says "job stopped." I've tried rebooting everything and it...


This type of problem is often caused because recently installed software is incompatable with your current software. If you have installed any software since the printer last worked, try uninstalling this software first (this usually works).

If this does not solve the problem, or you have not installed any new software first run your antivirus/antispyware programs. Make sure that you disconnect your computer from the internet before running antivirus.

If you are still having problems, then preform a system restore. To do this on XP follow these steps:
  • Start
  • All Programs
  • Accessories
  • System Tools
  • System Restore

Tried everything, printer X1270 won't hook up with


The trick (sometimes) to a good install is to try uninstalling it first. You can go here for instructions on how to uninstall your X1270. Lexmark suggests also removing OCR software, Fax Solution, Toolbar, etc. Start completely from scratch! This support site will also have the lastest download for this product and your Windows 7. Try the software install again.

unplug the printer from the computer usb port.

you can download the software for it from here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=vn&product=3177562&lang=en& just click on the long link.

Select if you have Vista or XP (take the Xp or vista, or older, not the x64 verions)

download the full feature software and driver. which will include everything the cd would.

install the software and plug in the printer when it asks you.

How do i connect a printer to aspire notebook which has nowhere to put a cd in


you can get those drivers and software ( same as on the cd, most likely newer ) from the hp website under support and drivers www.hp.com download and install the full feature softwara and everything should work perfectly.

Printer will not install


The follow procedure requires driver setup.
Ensure first that you have the original disk for your printer, if you do not have it, then download printer driver from Brother: DCP-330C: Downloads: Drivers.


Start unplugging all cables from printer and also unplug computer power cable.

Restart computer with printer unplugged.

On computer go to Control Panel installed printer and remove printer.

On printer, open all doors, look for paper stuck inside and for foreign objects.

Plug back printer to power but not to USB yet, if it flashes red already then the printer is faulty.

On computer, run the Printer software installer from disk or from download. Start driver setup with printer USB not connected.

When asked by software setup wizard connect the printer USB.

Try procedure above twice.

If still no luck the printer is defective, in that case call the phone number listed on the owner manual.

Try shutting the printer completely down & unplug power. then plug power back in and while holding down all buttons on the printer control panel, turn it back on. this should put it into a self diagnostic mode that prints out just about everything the printer can do, including a sample page. Also, be sure all rollers are clean & trays are completely closed before restarting. If the printer works when you do this, you should most liely check all settings in the software package (driver) or perhaps reinstall the drivers. If this is necessary, be sure to download the latest drivers from the Brother website.

Computer will not completely read cd.


When you say it will not install do you mean the software stopped during install? Did windows not see the printer? With your computer running. Connecting everything for the printer. Connect the usb cable to pc & printer. Last thing to connect should be the power. When you connect the power cord & turn on the printer. Windows should show an icon by the clock. This icon is windows found new hardware. If this does not come up than your printer is either not connected correctly, you have a bad usb cable or usb port is not seeing the connection. Try another usb port. Each company has their own way to install printer software. Most want the printer shut off. During the install of printer software, a window will open and ask you to connect the printers usb or serial connector to pc & turn on power. The software will finish. Others want you to install the software completely into windows. When you shut down windows than you hook up the printer & power. If everything above failed you can try connecting the printer to another computer & you can try another printer for your Dell. I know, who has something extra like a printer you pc but this is all about trial and error.
Hope one of these suggestions work for you! Lastly, new Dell! You should have free support through dell even for things like this. Luck!!

Installing problems


Check your pc for compatability to the unit and its software. Check you have no other old printer settings left on pc (causing conflict) check your pc memory is not causing issues, or your operating system is compatable. Sometimes software and pc's can just be pigheaded and stubborn (i realise they are not human but it sure feels like it sometimes)You need to completely uninstall all traces of the printer drivers before reinstalling. Go to computer, local disk, programs, and see if there is an icon or folder for your program. If so, delete it. Do a search too and type in your printer (make sure disc is not in drive) and delete any settings it finds. Now try reinstalling it again.
