The belt looks good. Should the motor be able to move side to side in the slotted holes with the belt on?

The belt looks good. Whats the purpose of the slotted holes on the sides of the motor on the base plate. Should the motor be able to move side to side in the slotted holes when the belt is on?

So the motor will move side to side in the slotted holes with the belt on? How do I put more tesion on the belt? The belt looks good

I have a maytag atlantis washer model mav8551aww. It squeels when its on through the whole cycle. The tube has trouble spinning. Like the belt is loose. But the belt looks good. Should the motor be able to slide back and forth in the slotted holes with the belt on.

OK above please find a couple of service manuals, this is what the engineers use to troubleshoot and repair these units, below is washer DIY troubleshooting site. This is either the clutch, or motor problem, but please work through the troubleshooting and hopefully you can effect a repair.

The motor is mounted on a plate with spring but it does have slotted holes in the mount. With the front cover removed you can see the motor on the left front corner. Loosen the screws and slide the motor snug with the belt on, while holding the motor tighten the screws.

If the belt looks warn or shiny you many need to replace it also. Tip the machine up slightly to view it, it will roll off the pulleys with ease.

The motor itself should be solid on the motor mount. The mount will move side to side on the base of the machine

If your belt looks good and not shiny the squeak may not be coming from there.

The motor tension is rarely ever in need of adjustment.

If may be coming from the snubber, that is located where the base of the washer connects to the tub support. See the image below (parts 22 and 23). Try moving the tub around in the base and see if you hear that sqeak, if so you can add a drop of oil down there but not much at all. The right fix it to replace it if it gets noisy from wear

Grinding niose from agitator.

If the fill and drain functions correctly, AND the spin cycle works correctly, AND the cycle itself starts and completes correctly, the problem being that the back and forth motion of the agitator starts the loud grinding noise, it will likley be broken gears in the transmission. The single most expensive part in the washing machine.
