Question about Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Program will not recognize DVD

I have a Dell Inspiron 4600 with two drives. Drive E is a Sony DVD RW DW- Q120A and Drive D is a TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E drives. Under normal conditions they both perform well. However, when attempting to burn a downloaded movie from utorrent that has been formatted using avi2dvd the E drive is ejected with the instructions to place a DVD into the drive, although there is one (DVD-RW) 4.7gb already there. When I attempt to use the D drive, I get the message "no disk in drive" even though there is one in that drive.
Any ideas toward this solution??

I replaced the dvd drive with a gdr8162b and added a sony cd/rw Crx217e-ds this computer is a dell 4600 cant get neither of the drives to work

If these drives are IDE deives then check the jumper settings on these drives.
The jumper setting for master (MA) and Slave (SL)
If one of these drives is on the same data cable as the hard drive the the jumper setting for this drive MUST be set to Slave (SL) because the hard drive will be jumpered as Master (MA).
If both of the drives are on the same data cable and the data cable is plugged into the second IDE controller then one of the drives MUST be jumpered as Master drive and the other as Slave drive.

THe DVD/CD writer all of a sudden does not write to a dvd, although a few months ago it did just fine. I have a teac dvd+rw dv-w58e in a Dell 4600. I have unistalled and reinstalled it. I have restored...

Not to over simplify your problem, but have you cleaned the optical eye of the drive lately? Sometimes we overlook the simple things.

The laser optical eye is located at the bottom of the drive. This equals a good(?) area for the eye to become covered with dust.

Some use a drive cleaner that resembles a CD disk with a brush on it, and a cleaning solution.

I use a can of compressed air for computers, and shoot air towards the bottom of the drive.
(Drive tray open, computer off, AND unplugged from power)

Installed and uninstalled it? Through Device Manager? This never works for me.

Neither does roll back the driver.

I use a different software method, and then a physical one if that does not work. Past this point the drive is unusable, and has seen the end of it's Life Cycle.

(Computer mechanical hardware components have a Life Cycle. So many hours of usage)

Software Method:
1) Start>Right-click on My Computer>Left-click on Properties>
Left-click on Hardware tab>Device Manager

2) Left-click on the + sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives

3) Right-click on the drive name in question.
(Teac w58e)

4) Left-click on Properties in the drop down menu

5) Left-click on the Driver tab

6) Left-click on Uninstall

There will be a warning window.
'Warning you are about to uninstall this device...and so on'
Click on OK.

7) Close the Device Manager window. Close the System Properties window.

8) Shut the computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)

Wait 1 minute. Turn the computer back on. After Windows has fully loaded, you should see out of your task bar,
'Found New Hardware',
and perhaps, 'Found Teac w58e'

See if the optical drive works now.
No?

Shut the computer down normally. Unplug from power. Open the computer case.
TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case, to relieve your body of Static electricity.

Unplug the power cable, and the interface cable from the drive. (Data cable)

Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of Five seconds. Let go of the button.
Do this procedure two more times.

Now plug the power cable, and the interface cable back into the Teac optical drive.
Close the computer case. Plug the computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute.

Turn the computer on.

If this doesn't do it, I suggest the Teac optical drive is toast.

TEAC CD W58E will not recognize a new (blank) CD-RW on my HP 6835 running Windows 2000 pro.It will read a CD that already files on it.

windows 2000 is the main problem for this. the operating system has limited drivers for the drive. have you installed service pack 4 if this dont help go to the teac website and upgrade the firmware for the drive.

Boot a Sony DVD RW DRU-840A drive in DELL precision 530

Have you tried changing the boot order.

If you're trying to use it as a boot device you need to tell the system to boot the cd /dvd drive FIRST and of course you need to have a bootable cd / dvd in the drive.

Let me know if you're already tried this.
