It is possible that the drive letter that your external drive wants is already assigned to another device. The links below will help you change the drive letter depending on what you operating system you are running.

You don't really need a manual, it's simply a normal USB HDD you just plug it into a USB port. If OK, you will hear a "Bong Bong" and the OS will detect and install drivers, then the device will show up in My Computer, as a simple HDD, just use it as a normal drive.

Blue light blinking and computer cannot find the drive

Most Techs on here blame the A/C adepter on these units to be a failure BUT. However I as of yet agree with there opinions to be FACT. Sure try a adapter but I feel its the usb/sata controller inside that has given out.

Most Simple tech external drives use Seagate or maxitor depending on what version , however these drive are extractable from the unit witch can be put in a free drive bay and thus the data can be worked off them now, if the drive is clicking called the click of death then your chances are neal on getting the data unless you take it to a data recovery center.

Hope this information does help

Simple Tech external hard drive

if you are running windows, then check the following:

go to control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management.

you probably have a drive (located on the bottom right) that is listed with no drive letter, just assign it a drive letter and see if it comes back, if not, the drive is probably not initializing and you might have to either format it or replace it.

Installation cd

Hello, technically you should not need the install CD for this as any modern computer you plug it into should be able to recognize it and use it. However if you feel you need any downloads go to the manufacturers website which is HERE. Good Luck! Dr. Know
