With the software that came with the unit.

Do you have it loaded on your PC?

If it is - the moment it is powered on, the PC should recognize it, and open up the software program.

Thanks!!

I cannot get it to scan a document and allow me to edit information on the document.

To edit information on a scanned document you must use a OCR (Optical character recognition) software. This will make the scanned document into a word file, and thus allowing you to edit it. Most OCR software are expensive unless one was provided with the printer.

Also, if you are scanning in as a PDF, most of the time you will not be able to edit it due to limitations with software. Most computers only have PDF Reader, unless you specifically purchased Adobe Acrobat full version (retail price $300)

How do I use my x5495 to scan a resume and then to edit it with my Dell XP computer?

You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up!
Best of luck, William

I have a hp 1310 AIO Printer how do you scan documents to computer using such programmes as ms word

MS Word cannot open scanned documents to edit. You need to run a scanned document through an OCR program (optical character recognition program) which converts the scanned document into a text document. Then you open Ms Word and import or open this text document to edit or change the text.

Scan document into text

Scanned documents are image documents and they need to be converted using an OCR program. The Optical Character Recognition program converts scanned image documents into a text file which you can open with a Word program and edit.
You need OCR programs such as -
OmniPage 17
ReadSoft
GOCR (freeware)
Tesseract OCR (freeware)
Microsoft Office Document Imaging (included in MicroSoft office Tools)

Scanning document and editing in word

Hai,

HP Solution center software installed for your printer model has OCR feature to edit the scanned text image, but its not guaranteed.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) programs cannot reproduce a document with 100% accuracy every time. Some manual correction of the page is necessary. The following information might help increase the accuracy of the OCR.

1.You must click Scan Document from the HP Solution Center to begin the scan for the OCR to work.
2.On the Scan Document Button window, select a compatible program in the Scan to drop-down. The perform OCR setting then appears to the right.
3.On the Scan Document button Window, select the Scan Document Settings button.
4.Make sure at least 300 ppi is selected.
5.Remove the setting from Flowed Text in the Scan Settings window. If it is not already selected, select it now. This option will work correctly only in word processing programs capable of accepting this type of output. Microsoft WordPad, for example, will not accept this type of output.
6.Repeat Step 5 with the Retain page formatting setting.

Note: If the above solution didnt work, then you have to buy third party OCR software.

Thanks & Regards
Rizwan

Scan a Document and Need to edit in Word 2007

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. But either way, you first have to install the manufacturer's software. Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Cannot edit scanned document

Hi,

its like this, the OCR or the SOftware installed in your computer is limited. If you're trying to scan a document which has a picture or with text that uses different fonts like monotype, or those that are not usually being use for normal documents, usually it wouldnt detect and it become distorted. Anyways, here are the steps that i want you to follow.

1. Open solution center. (click start, go to all programs, go to HP, then click on SOLUTION CENTER). or you can see SOlution Center on your Desktop.
2. Click on Scan Documents, then the Scan documents setting will open. Change the settings to these.
* SCAN TO: Microsoft Word.
3. Then, hit scan.
4. After scanning, the folder My Scans will open automatically, just go ahead and open the scanned document.
5. From there, you can start editing the text.

..remember, the scan a document is limited, it will not read all types of fonts. if the document is using a "times new roman" or "arial" the scanned document appears to be almost the same with the original. But, if the scanned document contains pictures or stylish fonts, that would make the document distorted.

Please let me know if you still have clarifications.

Thank you.

Scan document

Is very hard to alter a scanned document if you are not sure how to, especially without the help of an editing software. but try to scan it to text if you have Word it sure will help, scan it to Word and after is saved you can type or erase certain portions of the document, browse trough the tools tab to search for the option that will suit better the type of work you want to do on your document. If you have Adobe Acrobat Professional this is very easy to do, you only have to scan the document on Adobe format and using the advanced editing tool.
