Toshiba Satellite P105-S6084 Power On Issues

I plug my power cord in, the light comes on, but as soon as I press the power button, it shuts off. It will only do this if the battery is out. I tried it like this then place the battery in. The battery light lit up like it was charging but then it turned green (fully charged) in 10 seconds.

HI,
It might be a big or a small problem. It will not be possible to trouble shoot in a forum. If your computer is on warranty, try calling your technical support and the'll get it fixed for you. Or try calling a local technician for help...

Thanks and Regards

How to fix power button

Pam,

The problem is probably not the power button. If you have the AC adapter plugged in but you do not see any lights indicating that there is power reaching the laptop (such as the light that indicates that the battery is charging), chances are that you have a bad motherboard. The other possibility is that you have a broken DC power jack (where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop). Neither the motherboard nor the power jack are user-repairable issues. My advice would be to take this unit to a local professional computer repair center and have it evaluated.

Hi, I have a dell xps product red, was working well, shut down last evening and now when i press the power on there is no noise of any sort and the only light which illuminates is the monitor screen light....

Check that the power cord is plugged into the wall and the computer. If you're using a power strip, double check that it is plugged into the wall, and turned on as well.
If you still get no response from the machine, open the case and look for spinning fans or lights from the motherboard when you press the power button. Generally, a bad power supply is going to still allow your power button to blink amber warning, as a pass through from the power cord.

Toshiba Satellite A100-233 is not powering up

Welcome to Fixya.

Here are the things that you can try for troubleshooting a "No power" issue :
  • Remove all connections from the laptop (including all USB cords, ac adapter)
  • Carefully remove the battery and set it aside
  • Press and hold down on the power button for at least 10 seconds
  • Plug the AC adapter back (without the battery) and test the machine
  • If it works, then try to power it again with the battery this time
For your convenience, here's the link for Toshiba's support in case you need to contact them for warranty repair options :

Hope this helps, Thanks for using Fixya.

Have a Satellite L35-S2161 laptop does not power up. You press the power button and nothing happens. The laptop is plugged into the power adaptor.

when you plug in the power adaptor, does the light on the computer come on showing it has power before you press the button. If not , you need to take a voltmeter and check the DC voltage at the computer end of the adaptor while it is powered. If there is no power there, it is a problem with the cord. (this can be done yourself safely if you have access the a multimeter or you can run it down to your local radio shack and ask then to check it for you.
If the adaptor is ok , then id check where it plugs into the computer for looseness. cords get taken in & out of laptops a lot, and this area is VERY prone to getting damaged so to cause limmitted or no contact resulting in NO power.
once you've ruled out the cord , the computer power supply comes into suspect. This has airways through the back of your laptop (visable & hidden) that need to be clean (blown out) from time to time. If these get blocked with dirt, the laptop will run hot , shut down eventually and could cause damage to other hardware.
check these things and post again here, hopefully you dont have to go through everything before you find the issue.
Hope i was a help to you, let me know if i can assist you further.

My toshiba satellite p200-140 laptop will not start up. the power button lights up but nothing else happens. it was working fine last night

My laptop had a similar problem. I left my laptop running and some time later when I went back to my laptop, it would not startup. The power light seemed to be on but the laptop would not function. I tried several things like pressing on the power key for some time without any success and also tried all sorts of alternate buttons and sequences.

I resolved the problem by first disconnecting the power cord then by removing the battery for 5 minutes. I then re-installed the battery then connected the power adapter.

As soon as I turned the power button 'ON', the laptop booted up again.

Hope this works out for you.

Regards,
Rick

Hi, my satellite pro laptop is powered up. I can not shut it off.

If the laptop does not shut down if you go to Shut Down, you can try pressing the power button and see if it shuts down, if not, hold the power button down for 5 seconds and it will power off.

Toshiba Satellite P105 S6124 Power goes off. Jiggling electrical cord at base of computer gets it back on but when it's moved, it goes off again. Someone looked at it and tried a new cord. Determined...

First, the power cord connects to the Power Unit not the Motherboard, so if jiggling the wire causes the fault, it is either the Power Supply Unit or just the plug and wiring that the power cord plugs into.

If you must open the casing, try replacing the Power Unit, but the best solution is to get a computer repair person to look at it.

If you pull the unit apart and start poking around in there, you will almost certainly blow something up with static electricity (and then maybe your Motherboard will need replacing!). Note The voltage of Static Electricity (which you probably can't feel) is THOUSANDS of times higher than the Voltage that your computer components runs on. For comparison connect up a Mains Supply to a 12 volt globe and see what happens (and this is only 10-20 time higher than the required voltage.

Good luck.
