How to hook up a kenwood amp.kac-5204

All amps are basicly the same. It should be plain as day where the speakers connect to.
The 12V screw connects to the main power from battery, be sure to fuse that wire and use a proper size wire, thicker is better,I suggest at least 8gauge with 40amp fuse. The GND is ground and should connect to car metal, file paint for soild connection. The REM is remote and connects to the remote of headunit or if you have a stock deck to the acc of car found in wire harness of headunit. Plug in the RCA's to head unit, or get a converter to plug into speaker wires from car if you have a stock headunit.

My kac-x811d shows a message "E-03" upon connecting the remote wire.

According to the Manual for the KAC-X811D, E-03 indicates that there is a short curcuit in the speaker wires.

Check that you dont have a short on the wires and also check your speakers.

Try disconnecting the speakers and the wires and then swith it on.

If it comes on without showing the error then connect the wires and speakers 1 at a time

What u think

Hello jayPRICAN,

You do not say what kind of speakers you are running on the amp and that can affect how you troubleshoot the problem.

Most often, a wiring problem such as a faulty ground or short in the speaker wires will cause such a problem. Here are the most likely causes for the amp to go into protection.

1) When a speaker wire is shorted or grounded.
2) Overheated.
3) When a ground wire of the receiver/head unit or the amp itself is not properly grounded.
4) When the amp itself malfunctions and a DC is sent to the speaker output.

First check your power, ground and remote turn-on wires. Then disconnect the inputs and speaker wires. If the amp does not power up normally with all the other wires disconnected, the amp itself is defective. If it does power up with everything else disconnected, reconnect the wires one at a time to determine where the problem is located.

Hope this helps.

Only one side works and know it all worked when i took it out

Car amps are generally fairly simple to wire you need;

Battery Positive (large wire)
Ground (large wire)
Remote signal (small wire)
RCA In and/or Hi-level in

Then you generally have a set of screws or clips that are your speaker outputs.

To see if the problem is on the input or output side, simply switch your RCA cables and see if the audio starts coming out the other speaker.

If it does then you have an input problem and you should check to see if your RCA's are still plugged in to the head unit at the dash.

If the sound still just comes out the same side then you have an output problem and should check your speaker connections, verify that you subs are still good by switching the output wires on the amplifier, and check the wiring inside the speaker box.
