Netgear wireless adapter

Hello experts.

i installed a netgear wireless adapter. I have a workgroup. I can get the internet but i cannot browse the network to get to my shared printers. It keeps giving me a do not have permission error. I started all the network services, i am the administrator on the workgroup but i don't know what else to do.

Also the creepy netgear wizard keeps asking if to use windows zero config or netgears, everytime i log on. I chose the do not show option but it keeps coming back.

can you assist. Thanks.

Use windows zero config (or I would).

Have you changed your profile to the correct workgroup. By default the workgroup is "MSHome". Are you using XP or Vista?

Actually Hollyecho I already have the printers shared because all the other machines in the workgroup can access the printers.

Follow these steps (if you already have just tell me, and I will go from there)
To share the printer, open the Printers and Faxes folder on the computer that was connected to your printer.
To open the Printers and Faxes folder
• Click Start and then click Control Panel.
• Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
• In the Printers and Faxes folder, click on the printer's icon and, in the tasks pane, click on Share This Printer.
• Open the printer's Properties dialog box, and click on the Sharing tab.
• Click Share Name, and then click OK.

To connect to the printer
• Open Control Panel, and clicked Printers and Other Hardware.
• Click Add a Printer.
• Instead of adding a local printer, click Printer Connection and then browsed the network for the printer.

Please, let me know. If these does not help any, I will go from there, knowing this was done.

Make sure all the computers wired and wireless are in the same workgroup.
To share files across all the computers and laptops on your network then -
All the computer and laptop in this network group must have their hard drive or folder/s set to SHARED (a hand symbol will be placed on these folders that are shared).
If there isn't a secutity problem then these folders and easy of file sharing then do not setup users and passwords on these folders.

You might not be getting a correct ip from your wireless router.

first, try to power down the computer and your netgear router for about a minute or two. turn the router on first. once the lights are stable on the router, boot up your computer. if your still not able to access the internet. try this

go to start > control panel > network and internet > network connections or network and sharing center > right click on wireless network connection and go to properties > highlight "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" > left click on properties, the wireless network connnection properties will then be opened.
make sure that the radio buttons are on "obtain an ip address automaticaly" & "obtain DNS server address automaticaly".

My Netgear wg111v3 usb wireless adapter connects but can't browse

if you are aware of the wireless passphrase (password for the wireless) then click on start then control panel-->network and sharing center now on the left hand side in the blue panel click on manage wireless networks remove all the networks that you see in the list. select all of them one by one and click on remove button once the box is empty then click on add at the top and then add a network that is in range of this computer and now u will see your own signal again if yes then click on it and click on connect it will ask you for a passphrase or security key and in that type in your password and click connect u'll surely get coonnected otherwise lemme kno apoorva.shukla@live.in unofficial netgear tech support

if you are using windows 2000 or later start the routing and remote access service (make sure to set it to automatic) and that should solve your problem.

No internet on Wireless home network despite ''excellent'' signal

When Windows Wi-Fi utility reports available wi-fi networks, does yours show up? I would imagine so, if you're being prompted for the key, and you entered it. So, you should be connected to the LAN at that point.

Then it is a question of connectivity. Using "My Network Places", see if you can detect the other computers on the Local Area Network. If they don't show up, but all indicators say you are connected, right click on My Computer, then Properties. On the popup box, you will see "computer name", and beneath that, "workgroup". Make sure that computer is in the same workgroup as the rest of the network. If not, the bottom button will allow you to change the name of the workgroup.

If you can see the other computers on your network, but you just can't reach the internet, take a look at whatever firewalls you are running, and make sure that PC isn't being blocked by one of them. An easy way to check is to temporarily turn all of them off, and see if things start working.

Also, if you can access your hub (using the web interface), check there and see if the Dell desktop is showing up as a connected device at the router.

I would almost bet it is a workgroup issue, but if it isn't, let me know. There are several other things we can take a look at.

Cheers
Nick

Wireless-G LinkSys Model WAP54G random Internet Access

i think the problem is that when there are a number of pc's sharing the same wireless network the bandwith has to be shared and can be with upto 255 pc's. Connecting 255 computers to a single WiFi access point, while theoretically possible, is not recommended. Performance of such a network will be very poor. Install multiple access points instead to distribute the network load. By adding more access points to the network, effectively any number of computers can be supported (though the network becomes progressively more difficult to manage). On a home network, while dozens of computers and other devices may connect to the router, the performance of a shared Internet connection will quickly degrade as more computers access the Web simultaneously.

Connection problems

If Internet sharing is set up correctly one pc will be the one that connects directly to internet, the other will connect through a gateway or other device connected to your network. Check they have'nt both got the same IP address. Is this related to last problem, did you get the wireless card working wirelessly online?
