Question about Dyson DC28 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum

Red off/on flashing, roller brush not moving and no blockage

The red on/off button flashing, roller brush clean and not moving, and no blockage can be found where the manual tells you to look. Vaccum fairly new and I don't vacuum all that often. Filters are fairly clean but I did wash them and they aren't quite dry yet. What else could the problem be?

Dyson Animal DC28 is the make and model. Filters have dried. I've put it together and waited several hours for it to "reset" itself and it still does the same thing. No blockages, and rollar brush clean. Put back together correctly.

Don't have a solution for this problem, more like i have the identical problem after pretty much doing the same thing as the originator of this thread, washed/cleaned both filters, went over and cleaned up everything i felt needed it. reinstalled the filters(100%dry) and got the same problem too! I did not have it plugged in while working on it, but i DID have it on it's side while cleaning hoses/piping etc.
While i was double checking for "obstructions" as the user manual states, i noticed on the underside of the beater bar assembly (while looking at it uside down, it's toward the left side of the beater bar ) a little clear plastic window, and what looks like overloads with one not in the same orientation as the others (I'm a electrician , and quessing it's a tripped overload) What is was wondering is, is there a easy way to get at this overload and reset it, or is the plan of attack to remove the cover and go from there.(you'd think if they made it so easy to check a overload, they would also make it easy for a Dyson or other vaccum tech, to reset it?)
I'm hoping someone can help me (and possibly others in the same boat) quickly, before i decide to attempt a reset and spend extra time and trouble , when a easy answer from a expert out here will fix me up with a quick fix on this.

Thanks in advance!

Check That the belt drive is actually connected. Also at the rear there is a 90 degree bend This piece of pipe is also removable and the most likely place for a blockage.

This piece of pipe connects to the concertina hose and goes under the chassis near the R/Hand Wheel.

The overload may have tripped. Normally there is a reset button located somewhere on the top of the vacuum (the head of the vacuum that houses the roller brush).
Please offer a make and model and I will obtain information specific to your vacuum cleaner. :-)

If this has a rotory brush (spins) than check the belt. Take the bottom part off, (should be about four screws) and check to ensure the belt is on and the motor shaft is not just spinning. Usually when this happens you'll smell the belt burning. After so long the belt gets thinner, and will break.

If the belt is in good repair, turn it on with it laid on it's back, and watch to see the brush(es) are turning. If not, I suggest contacting the customer service department of it's manufacturer for further details and repair solutions.

Please, let me know if you need any further assistance with this.

Hello, Your problem will be solved by a) turning unit off and unplug it for at least 60 min. for it to Reset itself. b) Do Not Run It With Wet or Damp Filters. Make sure they are Completely Dry Before re-inserting them into the Machine. Also, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS UNPLUGGED WHILE DOING ANY KIND OF MAINTENANCE. Otherwise, the Safety Shutoff will trigger as it has done to you.
So, my best advice to You is for you to allow the filters more time to dry. At the same time, Make sure the machine is Unplugged and Upright at All Times while cleaning/maintaining it. After re-essembling the unit, wait for 30 more minutes before turning it on.. This should make it reset itself. OK? Good Luck and Remember to be Patient and try not to hurry the situation along, ok?

Dyson DC27- machine stays on with red button but beater brush won't stay on while vacumming low carpet.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

My vaccum cleaner will not turn on...i checked the outlet and it works but no power to my vaccum

Some vacuums have a resettable circuit breaker in case of overload or switch in case of blockage. Both are usually a pushbutton type thing (like on a powerstrip). Find it, reset by pushing, and run the motor. Check for obstructions and for anything that could be preventing the brush-roller from turning. If the breaker or switch trips again there is a problem that needs to be resolved.
The manual might be helpful.

Hoover mach 5 turns off after 10 minutes of use

I have had problems with the belts on my Mach 5 overheating (smell of burning rubber) and also with the motor overheating and shutting down.
I learned the hard way that one of the issues might be that the roller/brush on the bottom of the unit has a metal bearing inside the roller/brush that can become clogged with hair (both human and pet hair) which effects performance of the unit.
Another item to check is if your dust filter is not plugged up which is located behind the removable dirt cup. This is the cup that you remove that collects the dust/dirt/hair from your floor. Take the removable dirt cup out by depressing the gold button and then look behind where the dirt cup sits for filter. This can be cleaned out by washing it with soap and water in the sink but make sure you let it dry overnight before placing it back in the machine. This probably causes some of the overheating when not enough clean air is passing through the machine.
It’s fairly easy to fix.
Lay the vacuum on the floor so that you can see the roller/brush. Then remove the phillip head screws that hold the protective plastic plate over the roller/brush. (There are about 6 screws that hold this plastic protective plate in place) Also, you will be removing the (1) screw that also holds the plastic plate over the belts. There are (2) belts that you can remove and when in doubt replace these (2) belts for around $9.00.
Once you have the protective plastic plate off that covers the roller/brush disconnect the belt is around the roller. Take the roller and cut off any hair that is wrapped around the roller. Next, grab the roller by each end and twist the ends caps and (1) of the ends will unscrew. Once you have unscrewed one of the ends remove any hair or dust that is trapped under this cap. (Be careful not to lose the small metal washer that sit on top of the bearing)You will notice under this cap is a metal bearing that can become clogged and jammed with hair. The hair should come out fairly easy and allow the brush to spin fairly easy once you have screwed the end caps back in place test that it spins freely. If it doesn’t spin freely replace the roller/brush with a new one for about $23.00.
When you put the belts back on the thick rubber one (Belt # 40201-271) has probably become stretched and should be replaced for about $3.00. The small diameter belt that goes over the roller/brush probably does not usually need to be replaced and does not usually fit very tight. I have heard that people will take the small roller/brush belt and turn it upside down to get a better fit.
I just did this on my Mach 5 and it runs like a new machine. I did end up replacing the roller/brush head.
Hopefully you will find this useful.

Hoover WindTunnel, month-old belt, now too large to turn brush

I suspect you have been bitten by the Chinese bug.
A very large percentage of replacement parts for all manner of appliances and vehicles are now being conterfeited in China who we should know by now has no respect for the intellectual property of others and a flood of low-quality stuff is being made as 'knock-offs' since they are generally easy to fabricate with fairly primitive means. Our eldest son just returned a supposedly 'new' steering pump for his (US) car but this one at least had China as the origin shown on the package.
Make sure though that the brush roller turns freely and isn't being impeded by trapped thread in the bearings.

Brushmotor spindle

There is an automatic breaker that turns of roller brush when there is a blockage to keep it from burning out. You probably just have to restart the roller brush by hitting the gray button next to the red power button on your vacuum .. most people never notice that button until this happens.

Suction not working

Hi,

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.

How do I unclog a bissell vaccum? I'm not just talking about unclogging the hose, I need to unclog the complete vacuum cleaner. HELP!!!

Well firstly, whats the model number and do you have the user manual to hand?

If the main hose has been unblocked, then it could be the main dirt channel which is blocked just after the moving roller brush panel. A long pipe cleaner or wire brush can remove this blockage easily rather than taking everything apart.
