This is usually caused by Ice building up and then melting. If you have a unit where there is ice building up you may have to leave the unit to completely defrost.

Icemaker stopped producing ice so I removed. It had a burnt electrical smell. Two days later I opened the freezer door and it looked as though everything was thawing. Now the refrigerator portion is not...

ice mker may have not been the problem . there are heaters in the back and they may have been causing the smell and if they overheated due to a failed defrost therm. ck for ice build up in back of freezer . this would also cause ice build and a blocked evap coil .. and thus no cold to the fresh food . mm

Model No IK 458 -4-4T; Product No 925 780 652 02 Ser No 14100010. I get ice build-up on floor of fast freezer comp which jams pull-out basket.

If the defroster coil is not working, then ice will build up on the coils inside the back of the refrigerator.

But, you're saying that it's accumulating on the floor of the freezer jamming the pull out basket.

I would say that the timer or overflow valve is bad on this refrigerator causing ice to build up on the floor of the fast freezer compartment causing the jamming.

Ice build-up around the fan making a noise.

Drain line froze.
Used hair dryer to thaw frozen line, works OK now. 01/07/09
Think the frozen drain line was caused by the light in the refrigerator not shutting off when the door closes, causing excess cooling in the freezer. Poor design on the light shutoff switch, corrected design to make permanent repair

Ice build up

HELLO AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION.WITH REGARDS TO THE ICE BUILD UP IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FREEZER THAT COULD BE CAUSED BY ONE OF THREE THINGS.YOU NEED TO CHECK THAT YOUR HEATER ELEMENT IS WORKING OK AS THIS WILL CAUSE THE ICE NOT TO DEFROST FAST ENOUGH BEFOR THE FRIDGE COMES BACK ON.SECONDLY THE FAN NEEDS TO BE CHECKED IF ITS WORKING OK THAT CAN ALSO CAUSE IT.LASTLY YOU DEFROST CLIQSANS NEED TO BE CHECKED TO SEE IF THEY ARE SENSING THE TEMP CORRECTLY.GOODLUCK.MOHAMED

Kenmore refrigerator model 46-66812 ice build up on the bottom shelf of freezer

Had the same problem. I noticed that the fan in the freezer never shut off so I suspected the thermostat. I ordered and installed a new thermostat (about $30 and 15 minutes to install), the fan now cycles correctly and the ice build up is gone.
