Question about KitchenAid KGST307 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Oven takes too long to reach temp and the smell of gas

After turning on the oven and setting the desired temp, it will take at least 30 mins before it will come close to the set temp. While using convection, will result in a heavy smell of gas... Call my locate fire department to confirm with a meter if there was an excess of gas than normal. Yes, there was. After just 1 min from turning on...The fireman turn the oven off immediately since the meter was starting to go up quickly. They advised me not to use again and call a tech.

Sounds like a weak ignitor is not opening the gasvalve completely. Only testing the amp the ignitor draws will confirm. It could also be a sticking valve. Have a professional verify, this is not safe.

Oven will not reach desired temperature and slight gas smell

Just had same problem it was nice it waited until christmas dinner, all i did to resolve the problem was switch the upper broiler igniter with the lower one for the oven. I tuned on the oven & it fired right up i never use the broiler on my oven so itll buy me some time. So if you can get the broiler to light try that but i did have the same low temp. & the smell of gas. Good Luck

Takes too long for oven to heat up

Hhi, Is this a gas oven? If the ignitor is going bad, it will not open the gas valve as soon as it should.
Please let me know so I can assist you further.

Oven does not maintain temp.

It sounds like a thermocouple problem. While using the broiler, you gave the gas set to full and the thermostat is basically out of the loop.

GE Spectra XL44 oes not heat to desired setting

The oven sensor ( WB21X5301) is suppose to tell the oven control when to turn on and off to reach and maintain oven temp, but before you go replacing it, try to observe how long it takes from the time you turn the oven on to the time the oven ignites. Ignition should be 30 seconds to about 90 seconds. If it is taking a very long time, replace the igniter (
WB2X9154
). Ignitors get weaker over time, and this should be looked at first, as both parts are not real cheap, so you don't want to just start throwing parts at it. Here is a trick you can try: On the JGBP90 (model you posted under) the broil ignitor is the same part number as the oven ignitor, so if the broiler, which is generally used much less than the oven, is working fine you can interchange the two ignitors to see if that solves your oven temp problem without having to buy a oven temp sensor first.
