Question about PC Desktops

Smc2802w I've downloaded that from a couple of places...and when I run the setup, it still is not installing the driver for the card. The monitoring utility is isntalled but windows still asks for a driver for the card... The zip also contains a driver folder...I tried pointing the add hardware wizard to this folder but still it searches for "Network Controller" driver! strange!!

UnZip the files in the driver folder as they need extracting, (uncompressing) then direct the wizard to them.

good luck

Xp instalation problem

The CPU may be running however a driver was not loaded for your display shut the computer down unplug from wall push power button for about 4 seconds to discharge then remove the panel touch metal before placing hands inside then remove the video card. Now replace the video card and assemble back then restart machine. It may ask for a driver disc provide that for the video card and follow instructions. Be sure to go to IE only and download the Updates for your computer as well when completed.
If not working try the re-install again and go from there, hopefully it is not the card or monitor issue. John

Tip

INSTALLING A VIDEO CARD

Before getting started
  1. Difficulty of installing computer video card should be a 2 out of 5.
  2. Write down important information from the top or bottom of the card such as the Model Number, Serial Number and specifications.
  3. Ensure you are familiar with ESD and its potential dangers.
  4. When physically installing the video card, ensure the computer is powered down and unplugged.
  5. Finally, verify that the computer has an available AGP slot and/or PCI slot for the video card. If you are planning on taking out your previous video card to install the new video card ensure that the slot will be compatible with your video card. Some computer cases have a proprietary AGP slot causing only certain video cards to be compatible with the computer.
Set Jumpers
While today most Video Cards are configured or setup through either software or through Plug-n-Play, if your Video Card has jumpers verify that the jumpers are properly set. The jumpers generally determine the IRQ resource settings.
Additional information about resource settings can be found on our resource page.
Install into Expansion slot
Today, Video cards are capable of connecting into a PCI or AGP slot. Locate an available slot within the computer and gently push the card into the slot until it snaps and holds place. Once the card is in the slot, place a screw into the top of the card to hold the card into position.
Additional information about the computer bus or expansion slots can be found on ourcomputer hardware bus page.
BIOS setup
Once the Video Card has been successfully physically installed into the computer, place the case back onto the computer and connect the keyboard, monitor and power to the computer (we recommend that you do not connect all the cables yet, if problems are experienced you may have to disconnect all the cables again).
If your computer has an on-board video card, determine if the Video card can be disabled through BIOS. Turn the computer back on and as it begins booting, enter BIOS setup. If this option is not present in BIOS we recommend your review documentCH000193.
Additional help and information about the BIOS can be found on our BIOS page.
Software setup
After the card has been installed, your video card should have included software drivers for your operating system.
If the video card did not include drivers or the drivers appear not to work, you can find a listing of drivers on our video card driver page.

Can I purchase a wireless card to install into my Compaq Presario 5WV280 5000 series. I bought it in 2000, and it runs Windows Me. I'm pulling it out of storage for my 5 year old to use. It has...

Hi NoMamasTomas...
Yes your computer can have wireless as long as you have a wireless modem hooked up to your main computer
A wireless card that will work for your Windows Me machine is made by SMC.
I am sure there are others that will work in your computer also but I have this type sitting on my desk at this very moment.
So I will give you the website to look at a couple of ones.
Please take time to rate me

Can't setup dual monitors on ati radeon x1050

Hello
You might have installed ATI's CCC, "Catalyst Control Center", along with the display drivers. I suggest you download the latest combo-CCC and drivers for your video card. ATI comes out with new drivers pretty fast. When using dual monitors CCC is where you want to setup your monitors. After you set up the catalyst control center you'll find it much easyer to assign what monitor displays what. One other suggestion. ATI will want you to uninstall any other software for your ATI card even though all you have is ATI software.
Hope it helps, if so do rate the solution

Hi there

I think it may be a graphics problem. May be the XP drivers are not compatible with your machine graphics card.
You could try this to solve it ...

From the web, possibly on another PC that's got the internet, download the graphics driver for your machine and save it to a USB disk.

Once the set up is complete, try booting into safe mode (press F8 on boot, then select boot into Safe Mode)

Now try running the driver from the USB disk (or copy it to C: drive first then run it).

Hi there
You need to install the graphics drivers for the monitor to work properly, as soon as you have done this the monitor should work depending that the graphics card itself supports 32bit

Good luck and kind regards
