Question about Nikon COOLPIX S200 Digital Camera

My Nikon Coolpix S200 camera display broke. I replaced it with a new display but the image is offset about 1/4" to the right. Can this be fixed? Is it the CCD?

My Nikon Coolpix S200 camera display broke. I replaced it with a new display but the image is offset about 1/4" to the right. The stored images are also offset to the right. However, when I import the photos to my PC they display perfectly without any offset. I am waiting on delivery of another display to see if that fixes the problem.

What other troubleshooting steps or solutions are there to this problem?

Does the image look like it is just pushed to the side and are the edges cut off? It is usually possible to align the screen to the center if that is the case.

Yes, the image is pushed to the right about a 1/4" and cut off on the right side.
The screen is physically in the proper location.

How can it be aligned to the center?

Looking through the manual I have found that there is no way to align it on this particular camera. Some screens have only 97% fram coverage(which is the case with your cam) and the higher end models have 100% . You have probably purchased a screen that is for a higher end camera like S-series or D-series. Return it get a new screen for your model and that should fix it.

  • way3 May 16, 2010

This IS an S series camera.

You are saying that other than trying a different screen display, there are no other solutions to this problem?

I meant to say higher end models like S5700. Your particular cam has 98% frame coverage.

Hi,

Look at the Saved images or Video's. Do they also have the Same Symptoms or ONLY when you Display a New Image, you would see that problem.

If this is ONLY with New Image, I am sorry but the CCD Sensor is at Fault. Check with Nikon, if there is any Recall for this Model unless buy a New One. The Cost of New Sensor is not Cost Effective relative to the Cost the new camera.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The saved images are offset to the right the same as to live display. When I import the pictures to the PC they display as full images.

    Is the new display faulty?

    Thanks for your response!!

I would doubt a Screen as if the sensor would have been at fault, the Saved images would have been correct and moreover, you are seeing the Pictures perfectly in PC.

If you have any Replacement Screen, try to swap and see, if it resolves the problem or not.

    Let me know,once done.

    Hope i helped you.

I don't have a replacement screen other than the one on which I am have the current problem. The original screen was cracked and so I replaced it but this new screen which is offset to the right as I originally described.

I don't understand your comment "I would doubt a Screen as if the sensor would have been at fault".

    Could you explain more clearly?

    Thanks for your response!!

What i meant above, is explained below :-

    1. If SENSOR would be at Fault, the saved images would not be Offset.ONLY the live images would be OFFSET.Secondly, if the sensor is at Fault, it affect the Final Image. As you could see the Correct image in the PC, Sensor is working fine. There is nothing wrong with Sensor.

    2. As you are unable to see Saved as well as Live images Offset, i would say, it could be a Different problem than Sensor. There could be many Reasons. First i would guess Screen as it is recently Replaced.

After Replacing the Screen ( with a Different one than what you have ), if the Problem persists, we might need to go for Further Troubleshooting .

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for your response!!

Unfortunately, there are no other Troubleshooting Steps. If the Problem But, i was Discussing the same with one of the Fellow Expert and he mentioned that this Model is also Prone to Lens Error which might results in the symptoms that you discussed.

Kindly check the Location of the Lens and make sure that there is nothing wrong with them.

    Let me know,once done.

    Hope i helped you.

Clean sensor image sensor ccd

The image sensor in the Coolpix S200 is not self cleaning. There are a number of videos on YouTube that say they show you how to clean it, but unless your camera is really effected by a dirty sensor and you are very skilled at disassembling tiny electronic devices, I wouldn't recommend them.

I want to use my coolpix s200 as webcam

Unfortunately, you can't. The S200 was designed to store images (and videos) to memory, not to stream live video to another device.

I know that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

Its a coolpix s230 the lens broke were can i go to get it fix

Hi,

It depends in which country you are.
Go to:
  • Select your country
  • Find your closest branch
  • Call or email them to get details to repair your camera.
  • Otherwise if your camera is still under warranty you can take it back to the place were you purchased the camera and let them assist you further.
Hope this helps!!!

Lens Error

I have the same problem with my nikon coolpix s200. After 2 months the lens of my camera won't go inside. On the lcd screen stood lens error. I went to a shop with this problem. He took the battery out of my camera and press the off and on button for a while. Then he put the battery back in the camera and press the on button. The lens of the camera was now going inside en outside and inside and outside with a strange noise. And also on the screen stood lens error. Okey, the lens is inside the camera. But how can I fix this camera? What is the problem? What have you done? Please let know..!!
