There should be a wiring diagram tucked in a pouch under the bottom of the refrigerator.
If the compressor windings show proper resistance, my first guess would be a faulty start relay.

Many people have had problems with their refrigerator compressors not starting and wonder what may be the problem. Many times the problem can be traced to the start components. The start relay and the start capacitor work together to help the compressor get started. By giving it a short extra shot of higher voltage current, it gives the compressor the kick to get it turning up to speed.

The capacitor is the long round tube on the top of the box that houses the compressor terminals and the start relay.

The start relay is pushed right onto the compressor terminals C and R. It also has two wires that go up to the start capacitor.

The relay can be removed by just pulling out on it away from the compressor off of the pins.

If your refrigerator compressor is not starting, you can change the start components easily, to see if they are the problem. Usually you will have about a 50-50 chance of the compressor working again by chcompressor will not turn on. - 392b551.jpge parts.

If you are looking for the configuration of the compressor terminals, here is a picture of the terminal cover that shows which terminals are where.

Take care

I need the compressor to run for a longer period of time. what do I do? Does the defrost timer has anything to do with it

Yes, when the defrost cycle is running the compressor isn't. Defrost timer should run a defrost cycle twice a day. Interval is 12 hours, defrost usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. Some cycle the compressor backwards slowly to warm the evaporator and melt the frost faster. I had a commercial walk in freezer that defrosted every 2 hours and had an evaporator heater element. The timer switches off the compressor and turns on the heater.

Turn the timer slowly clockwise until the compressor and fans stop. Leave the timer alone in that position that turned the compressor and fans off for up to 35 minutes. In the first few minutes after the timer turned fans and compressor off you should be getting defrost. If timer comes on by itself and you have defrost results the timer and defrost heater are good. If the timer does not turn the refrigerator back on but the defrost took place then replace the timer. Every different refrigerator or freezer has a different amount of time on for cooling and time off for defrost so it is important to know what the model number is to answer the part number and time off/on ratio. What is the model number of the refrigerator that the timer is on? Sea Breeze

My amana arb224rcw freezer is working frige quit what is wrong?

In most cases it will be the defrost control or 67001036 Defrost Timer

Because I don't have your freezer temperature I must include the=> 67003410 Air Damper Assembly
356fa031-191b-445d-836c-0942ac2d310b.jpg

Look inside the fresh food section and behind the control panel where you adjust temperature. I want you to find the 67001036 Defrost Timer
and with a flathead screwdriver turn the defrost timer slowly clockwise untill the compressor and fans stop. Leave like that for thirty minutes. If the timer does not restart the fans and compressor simply replace the defrost timer if you need to turn to restart fan and compressor. I have more to explain of other cause for this so let me know how turning defrost timer like explained above turns out. This is forcing defrost but it will explain with other parts that may have failed also..I am here to help Thanks Sea Breeze

Feel top of the compressor and tell me how hot after it has been running awhile. I need also that you advance the defrost timer=>. 216517400 Defrost Timer

clockwise slowly untill the compressor stops or starts. I need to make sure the timer is not stuck into defrost. I want you to leave the compressor off for up to 35 minutes. If the freezer compressor doesn't restart bt then simply again turn the timer clockwise slowly until it does and then stop turning. The defrost timer is location 23 in this photo HERE If you need to turn the defrost timer like this to restart the compressor then replace the defrost timer and this will resolve the freezing problem. If not we move to the defrost heater location 14 in the sme photo=> 216254600 Defrost Heater

I have a large walkin freezer and the compressor and heat strip come on at the sametime, I have to disconnet the compressor when the defrost comes on. Im not sure what wire goes where.

Open following links for 8145-20 wiring diagram and resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/8145-20-wiring-350.jpg
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#defrost

8145-20 is 240Volt defrost timer.
Heat strip and compressor should not activate at same time.
As a general rule heater connects to NO terminal 3 and compressor connects to NC terminal 4
NC terminal 3 compressor is on all the time until defrost cycle begins.
NO terminal 4 heat turns on when defrost cycle begins, and at same time NC terminal 3 compressor turns off.
At then end of the defrost cycle, NO terminal heat turns off and NC terminal 3 compressor turns on again.

I have a paragon 8145-20 defrost timer. do you wire the compressor to the timer? I cant seem to find a wiring diagram on how to wire this correctly

Link below has wiring diagrams and wiring manuals for 240V 8145-20
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html#defrost

I am not expert installing defrost timers.
According to information from Paragon, 8145 is for hot gas defrosting. 8140 series are time initiated, and pressure-or-temperature terminated.
Wiring diagram does not show compressor wired to timer.

The cycle works like this:
Timer is running but defrost is not switched ON.
Fan is ON.
Timer switches ON and activates defrost cycle.
Fan turns OFF. Hot gas valve turns ON for defrosting.
Cycle limit switch is temperature or pressure sensitive.
Cycle limit switch reaches trip point, timer switches OFF.
Hot gas valve turns OFF. Fan turns ON.
So fan is off during defrost cycle.
Hot gas valve turns ON when timer switches ON.
Timer is switched OFF by pressure-or-temperature limit switch.

My defrost system is not working. How do you check the defrost timer and the thermostat disk ?

The defrost thermostat electrically closes when the temperature is below 40 degrees F and opens when it is above. You can check it with an ohmmeter and it should read close to zero ohms when the temperature is freezing and infinity when it senses temperature above 40 degrees F.

The defrost timer typically runs the compressor for 6 hours then turn off the compressor and powers the defrost heater from about 30-40 minutes then the compressor is powered once again. The timer typically fails be not advancing causing the refrigerator to either stay in defrost mode, or in cooling mode. To check, turn the cam until you hear a click. With the refrigerator plugged in, it should turn off the compressor and power the defrost heater for 30-40 minutes. If the compressor does not turn on after 40 minutes, then the timer is bad and needs to be replaced.
