If not, look for you windows CD and try to boot using it. If the system is unable to boot through the windows CD then its a hardware problem. If its able to boot, then its a windows problem. Try this first.

You may have to delete the upper and lower filters of the drive.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

At the right pane, look for upper and lower filters. Delete them both. Sometimes you will only find one but its ok. Close the regedit window and restart the system.

Check if your drive is able to read the disc already. If not working then you may have to consider reinstalling windows.

troubleshooting advice below-try steps in order until the problem is resolved.
  1. Be sure to check your disc to make sure it is flat. You can check this by putting the disc upside-down on a flat surface. If the disc is bowed up on any side or in the center, do not use the disc as it may get stuck in the drive.
  2. Make sure you a
  3. e inserting the disc far enough for the drive mechanism to activate. Discs must be inserted at least three-quarters of the way into the drive, and often nearly all the way in, before the drive will pull them in.
  4. Make sure the disc is completely inserted in the drive. The disc-insert cycle runs the motor for about 6 seconds. If, for whatever reason, a disc is not completely inserted, the drive will reverse and push the disc back out of the drive.
  5. Since the entry slot can be tight at first, give the drive 1 or 2 seconds to accept the disc and pull it in on its own. If the drive struggles with injecting discs or injects them part-way then stops, inserting a disc multiple times should correct the issue.
  6. Restart the macbook.
  7. Do not use discs that have anything attached to them or dangling from them (such as "sweeper" or cleaning discs).
  8. If the drive repeatedly does not insert media fully, or accept media at all, please contact Apple, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

Might be your disc contains some data, or the disc is bad, try replacing the disc and see if it works.

My iomega 80gb portable hard drive has stopped being recognised by my mac. Have plugged it into a pc and the following messgae appears: WINDOWS-DRIVE NOT READY The drive is not ready for use it's...

If the drive will spin and the read/write heads are not damaged you can attach an ide to usb adapter to the drive after you take it out of the case and possibly get the data off of the drive. There are companies that you can have do this but they are expensive. Do a search for data recovery and you'll see how many there are.

CD-R problem

If this is happening it's usually a sign that your drive is failing as it can no longer read the media type, but just double check, if you are using Nero that you havent got DVD highlighted in the start smart as the media to burn to.

Transfering my video tapes to DVD

A couple of quick observations: -If you have two or more optical drives you could be inserting the disk in the wrong one. -You may have just misspoke when you said *insert into the DVD/CD burner drive a CD-R disc* but just to make sure you need to be inserting a blank DVD disk and not a blank CD. No offence intended, especially since I?ve made both of these mistakes in the past myself :)
