This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

If it's the CCD issue, it'll be for free. If it's any other problem, they'll give you a quote. If you don't like the quote, just tell them to ship the camera back.

By the way, the shipping is free for an evaluation of this problem. It doesn't hurt to contact Canon. Either call them on the phone ( 1-800-828-4040), or email them at carecenter@cits.canon.com. Describe your problem, and ask them if your camera can be evaluated under the CCD advisory. They'll send you a free mailing label. Just print it out, place your camera in a box (include a short note saying evaluate under CCD advisory), and tape the label to the box. Drop it off at any UPS drop off (or call them and have them pick it up) You'll have your camera back fixed in less than two weeks. Do it tomorrow.

I was taking a pictures and all of a sudden the screen went black and now all the pictures i take come out black

The mirror inside your camera lenses appear damaged or displaced which is responsible for properly reflecting light (otherwise comes out black or too exposed). Send it back for repair.

I have an Olympus FE-230 and it suddenly starts taking black and white pictures. I don't know what I did, but how can I get color back?

I have had my Olympus FE-210 for about 2 1/2 years just recently it started to display an all black screen after I took pictures and like many of you I would turn it off and back on just to get 1 picture out. After testing it over and again I may have solved the problem: First: remove all of the pictures and memory card from the camera Second: go into the menu and find the reset button it will then display that the camera will return to default(factory setting) after I did this I was able to take over 35 continuous pictures using every setting and scene setting the camera has If this doesn't work I would suggest buying a new camera Hopes this helps!!

Cannon EOS Rebel XS shows busy display stopped working

Just got a brand new camera. Played around with it a few nights to learn all the parts and buttons. Went to a concert tonite. While waiting for the show I took many test shots to see how the camera would work under these contiditions. Used a 75 to 300 Cannon lens. I had just got the settings about right when the show started. All of a sudden the display went dark and "busy" flashed in the view finder. But it would not take any more pictures. Taking the battery out and removing the sd card did not help. The auto focus and flash still worked but nothing else.
This camera is going back to the store if I can't get some help. PLEASE............. vj

Display screen not working, picture display not working

If you press the display button it might make the pictures show up. I went on a trip to NYC last year right after i bought this camera and suddenly the pics weren't displaying and i was bummed because i thought that i had broke but after :( the trip i figured out that that was what the problem was.

Color distorting

I am having the same issue. Every picture I take is greean and red and looks psychedelic. I do not use the camera constantly so I am not sure what happened. It's only 2 years old.

Can't take pictures

The blinking red clock means the date and time are not set, I think.  I have a 7900 that won't take pictures after a battery charge.  It's worked for over 3 years and then suddenly no more pictures.  I uploaded firmware version 1.2 and that didn't fix it either.
