Question about AOC A27W221 27 in. LCD Television

1 Answer

I have an AOC TV/Monitor, model number A27W221. I'm using it as a display for our Wii game console. I purchased a set of component video cables and I believe I have them hooked up properly from the Wii to the TV. I'm seeing a display, however it is only in black and white instead of color. I can't find the instruction manual for the TV any more so I'm just trying to find out if anyone has an idea of how I can fix this problem. Thanks in advance. Paul

Hook them both to a A/V selector switch and then to the TV.

Purchased and downloaded Super Mario Bros 3 on Nintendo Wii. When we launched the game it went to a black screen. When I press the (home) button, the menu comes up and game is visible in background, but...

Some times these games don't function right on higher end TVs. Go into the wii screen settings and if you are using component cables make sure that it is set to progressive scan or standard under the resolution. If this doesn't help and you are on either an LCD tv or plasma you should get the component cables.

Wii game hooked up to new Sharp LED tv. TV is color and the wii is in black and white.

Usually this is either a cable or a mode issue. First make sure that you have the correct cable connections. (Composite video cable to a component video jack is one possible cause of the problem.) Component video cables are not included with the set but will give better results. However, composite video in from the wii's composite video out should give good results.

If you are using HDMI or component video cables, then go into the Wii video menus to select the correct mode for your tv. Check your TV manual and the Wii setup guide for details on the mode (resolution, etc) you should be using.

If the problem persists, try new video cables and make sure that they are fully seated on both sides. Try switching inputs if you have several available.

I hope this helps.

No colour

Hi, Definitely a TV issue for me. Changed Wii to another input on TV and resolved situation. Need now to check how to get my TV to recognize colour on AV2 & 3 because I prefer to keep DVD input as AV1!

I had to use the (RCA) video inputs and not the component inputs. These are the ones made for video games. If you want to use the component input (Component cables are Red,White Red, Green, Blue). If you don't have any, you should be able to purchase them at your local electronics store like Radio Shack or Best Buy. Hope this helps, read below:

TV (This is your cable connection or TV; coax)
Component 1 (Must use component cables for this input/output; Red and White for audio, Red, Blue, Green for Video)
Component 2 (Must use component cables for this input/output; Red and White for audio, Red, Blue, Green for Video)
HDMI 1 (HDMI Cable)
HDMI 2 (HDMI Cable)
Video 1 (Must Use RCA cables, or RCA jacks; Red and White for Audio, Yellow for Video)
Video 2 (Must Use RCA cables, or RCA jacks; Red and White for Audio, Yellow for Video)

Mode not supported???

You are trying to play your games with a component cable when they are only supported for use with a scart cable. Typically all old games on the NES and Megadrive/Genesis are not supported over component cable but some SNES and N64 ones are. When you purchase a game on the Wii Shop channel you'll need to look and see if it is EDTV or HDTV compatible to know if it'll work over a component cable. This is one of the main reasons I stopped using my component cable.

Bought a Wii and using the standard cables it played great on a new 50' Panasonic Plasma as well as on our 2 year old 32' VIZIO LCD. Just upgraded to a 46' Sony LCD (W series) and the Wii looks terrible...

The Wii can display on a HDTV, but keep in mind the output is only 480p. It is not true high definition, and it will only display this using a component video cable. There shouldn't be a difference with LCD and plasma.

You will also need to go to the display settings to force the Wii to display in 480p.

Try a different input (safe to assume your Sony has multiple?) and see if it is that specific input. Also, try a different device like a DVD player or VCR and see if you get the same result.

Good luck.

I want to buy the kids a wii for xmas. They have a samsung rear projection t.v that platys their xbox, will it play their wii?

Look at the inputs panel to your TV. If it has an extra composite input (red, yellow, white), you will be able to use the Wii right out of the box.

If it has component inputs (red, blue, green), it will work at a higher resolution (480p vs. 480i), but you will need to purchase a component video cable for Wii. A regular component video cable will not work.

Good luck.

No Sound from TV when using Component Cables

what you do is plug in the HD cables as you previously stated and then place the red and white cords where you would normally put then like when you plug in a dvd player or the place you normally would plug in the red and white cables.

Wii console to Philips HDTV Connection not working

In order to use the 480p (HDTV/EDTV) resolution, you MUST be using the Wii Component Video Cable. Any other cable will not display the 480p resolution, you have use the 480i (Standard) instead. You can order the Wii Component Video Cable through Nintendo's Web site. Using that cable, you can select the 480p resolution. Hope this helps.
