Easiest way since I don't know the what make and model of wireless router you have is on the back of the router is a small pinhole reset, insert toothpick in to re-set, the default for wireless routers are open un-secured access.

Hi,

Two way to remove security encryption:
1. disable in your wireless setup (Either the WEP or WPA);
2. full reset the router. Press the small recessed button for more than 10 seconds. (However this will also remove and and all settings of the router including the WAN)

For simplicity, perhaps option ! would be the safest for your requirement.

If for some reason the above does not work for you, pls post back brand and model of your router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

Power off the router. Press on the reset button while powering it on. Hold for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, try pressing on the reset (for at least 10 seconds) with the router powered off and then when on. If that still doesn't work, connect your laptop to the router using a LAN cable and access the router setup using a browser. Reset to default using firmware web based interface,

    Cheers.

Forgotten password for wifi network

Which operating system ??
Your wireless Internet password is the encrypted security pass phrase that was set up when you installed your wireless router.

Your router allows you to access the Internet.
If you have access to more than one wireless network, you may need to remember multiple passwords.

If you happen to forget one password, you have two options: reset your password or locate the current password.

Windows 7 allows you to view the security characters of all your wireless network passwords.
Click the "Wi-Fi" network icon located on the Window's taskbar.

Right-click the name of your network's "SSID" name and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Click the "Security Tab." The network security key is now visible but unreadable.

Click the "Show Characters" check box and this will reveal your wireless password.

or
Reset My WiFi Password

Wireless networking is a common feature in homes and offices.
Wireless routers provide access to a single Internet source, and wireless passwords ensure that only select users can access the network.

If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.

Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser.

Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.

Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."
Enter your username and password.

Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings. Disable the wireless security.

Reset to Factory Defaults

Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.

Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.

Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

Linksys router password

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

How do I secure the wireless router with a pass word

in esence what you do is:

1. go into configuration page (check your router manual or documentation)
2. go into wireless
3. change the defaul SSID (that is the network name or Access point name or your router name)
4. make a note of the SSID you have defined (you needed when setting up your client computer)
5. if you want you can stop broadcasting the SSID (recommeded.. that's why you noted that on previous step
4. set up your encription method (wep, wpa, wpa2).. wp2 is recommeded or wpa if wpa2 is not avaliable or wep if that's the only option as it is better than nothing.
5. configure and note you passphrase/key (you need this to configure your client computer)

this is a good article that will give you some fundaments

Hi

its very simple, You need to go to your Routers web based control interface, by typing the IP address (usually 192.168.0.1) on your browser. Once control panel appears click on the "Wireless" button located at the left side. After requested page appear you will see the "Security" option which you can selec. None, WEP, WPA or WPA-PSK. You can choose security type and define your own security code. If you need more details and explanations you can obtain the comprehensive user's guide here

I want a secure line for my router on my laptop

While it is impossible to be 100% secure on a wireless network, there are several things that will help. Use the wep encription, use mac filtering and add only the addresses you want to connect. Once you have everything set up, disable broadcasting the SSID, and lastly, change the user name and password on the router. Don't forget to enable the firewall on your laptop. Amother thing you can do is go around with your laptop and map the signal range so that you have an idea where the signal limits are.

Forgot the password/code/security to let somebody else onto my linksys home wireless network. Don't remember how to do any of it or retrieve the security code to access the secure wireless network

Hi,

The easiest would be to reset the router using the small recessed button at the back of the unit. Performing a full hard reset (pressing reset more than 10 seconds) would clear the password. Of course, this action would also clear all other configurations and settings reverting the unit back to factory default.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I am trying to disble the security encription for my Motorol router but I have lost the user id and password info to open the gateway

Hello boboso1

If you do not have the login to access the router's UI (user interface), then you must physically reset the router to factory default settings in order to regain access to the UI and to disable its wireless encryption. (Wireless encryption is not normally enabled w/ the default settings.)

If you would like to give us the router manufacturer, model number and version number, we can point you to where you can find the owner's manual for this router.

The manual will provide you w/ directions for reconfiguring your router.

If you have any more questions, just ask. We're here to help.

Thank you,
BJ @:)

Belkin n wireless

Open the router control panel using Internet Explorer. Open wireless page and look for security option. Simplest security measure is setting up a 64b wep encription key it is made of 10 exadecimal numbers (0..9-A..F). It is still a good option to secure home based network. Refer to the router manual for information on how to open the router control panel using internet explorer. Remember to save all changes made to the router before restarting it.

Hope it may help!
