TV turns itself off after a few seconds, no picture at all

When I press the power button, I hear the TV turn on. What I here is like a relay click, no sound or picture from the TV itself. It will shut off after maybe 5 seconds then turn itself on again. It will do this repeatedly, never do get a picture or sound. Also don't get the sound of the CRT powering up, if you know what I mean. when i turn my tv on i get picture and sound but after about 4 or 5 minutes the picture goes blank and all i have is sound then the tv turns itself off

I have a Samsung DLP HLN507 which had the same problem as yours. One of the FixYa Techs (Bobbyj) told me to replace the Lamp (which I did) and it now works great. I also found a video on Utube showing how to repleace the lamp. It's pretty easy to do. I got my lamp from this web site. If you know the exact model # of the lamp u need, then you could try Ebay as they may be less $. The site I used has good Cust. Serv. and so I didn't mind paying a few extra $ to know I got the right part. Good Luck, Jeff

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Philips Magnavox 32MT3305 keeps shutting off with relay clicking. The green power light stays on but the picture and sound go out right after the orange status bar goes away. If the channel up or down...

the relay is the safety protective device..sometimes a defective component or something. maybe an overloaded power supply might caused this before any thing could gets worst..the relay will shut the unit..

No picture or audio.power light blink on once and turns off

The real deal here is the protection circuit has activated. This is caused whenever an excessive amount of current is being drawn from the main power supply. Upon detection of same, it immediately takes over the power management of the set and shuts it down. The clicking sound you hear is the ON relay turning on the set, but immediately the power mangement system shuts it OFF. You should hear two clicks, but they may be so close together that it sounds like one click.

This set is getting rather ancient and I would not recommend you spend much money on it for this reason: It is highly likely that once the set if repaired that another failure would occur. This is because of the law of averages; the first failure is often followed by another failure from anywhere within the set.

Power light comes on,clicks before picture comes on then shuts of

Yes, it is either that or the "Startup Circuit" is faulty usually it is the associated relay. Thats the clicking sound you hear. When you turn on the TV, the relay is activated along with a timing transistor, the Relay has to make contact within a certain time frame. If the contact is not made during that time frame, the TV shuts down. This is a safety feature in all TV's. If you can get a schematic it will show you where the relay is or, after you unplug the TV and wait 15 minutes, you can take a look inside at the main circuit board, sometimes they mark the area with either "START UP" or "SHUT DOWN" and there you should see a relay.
But a new one usually has to be soldered in.

TV turns itself off after a few seconds, no picture at all

As far as fixing goes, you might as well get a new TV... Unless its a LARGE EXPENSIVE HOLY $%^# TV, It will cost more to fix, than to just buy a new one, unless its under warranty, which being an older model as that (or so im reading) It may not be covered.

Try unplugging the TV, and while unplugged, hold down the power button for a full minute (yes, with the plug NOT in the wall) after a minute, plug it back in, and try. Its a hard reset. If it still does not work, and you've tried different outlets, It's probably a repair issue, and you'll need to get someone to fix it, or just junk it :-/
