Yes and No and are you pirating?! Ha ha! But seriously, Your router cannot be used as a bridge or repeater. But....you can buy a simple directional antenna and get enough signal gain in the direction of your neighbors house to make the signal more than useable. Buy something with at least a 3 db gain. Look on Ebay....they shouldnt cost more than 5-10 bucks. Good luck and be a good neighbor!

I can not log on to my Linksys router. I want to change my security; i am currently listed as unsecure. which sucks because my neighbors steal my internet!

Do you have any computer connected to the router?
If not then connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
open the internet browser and in the address bar type the number 192.168.1.
Log in to the router setup page using the default password ' admin'. If admin password is not working then try some different password that you use most commonly.
If nothing is working then you will need to reset the router and reconfigure the router.

Can I use tha linksys wireless-g pci adapter card

The signal types and equipment necessary to pickup the wireless network protocol G (or for that matter A, B, or N) are very different from the signals and equipment that are used to receive tv signals using outdoor antennas. TV signals are very basically instructions telling your TV what to "paint" onto the TV's screen. Wireless Internet protocols use a more complex system to send data, be it text, pictures, programs, or a mixture of all of those types of info. There are signal boosters for Wireless Internet protocols, but they are very different from a coax antenna. Most cities and towns now have free "Hot Spots" that allow people with wireless cards to access the Internet for free. Do a search on Google for Free Hot Spots for your area and see if there are any available.

How to get rid of old "unsecured" wireless network

SLRUSS63,

Are you referring to the Linksys SSID showing up when you browse for available wireless networks? Also, are you in an apartment building or otherwise relatively close to other houses/residents? It is possible that you and a neighbor both have Linksys APs and if neither was secured originally, your neighbor could have been connecting to your AP and vice versa. This definitely would explain slowness especially if you or your neighbor does any type of video or audio streaming.

One way to test this is to shutoff your Linksys router and view available wireless networks on your computer. If "Linksys" still shows up, it is most likely someone else's router/AP.

As long as your SSID shows up and you can only connect to it via the WEP key, your AP is secure.

Let me know if you get different results than I explained above.

Wireless router connection unsecured

Open a browser and type in the address bar 192.168.1.1
It'll prompt you for a username and password, if you used the Linksys Installation CD, remember the username and password that you provided. Else, leave the username blank and key in admin for the password.

Once inside the router, click the Wireless Tab then the Wireless Security sub-tab.
Enable and choose WPA Personal and provide a password for your wireless network at the WPA Shared Key section.
Click Save settings at the bottom.

Your computers will need to reconnect to your network and asked for the security password.

Would a neighbors linksys router interfere with my belkin connection?

do check the signal strength of the wireless connection..you can improve signal by removing any big objects between the compu and the router/access point and/or re positioning the router.also intervening walls will affect signal..the fact that you are getting a linksys signal impilies that your home network signal is weak..hope it helps!

Belkin Wireless Modem Router problem

well, first of all the i also have the N1 belkin wireless modem router, in order for it to connect, there has to be a wireless connection in your area for you to connect to, if any of your neighbors so have wireless you can connect to their network, but if you are not getting a conection that means no one around you has wireless or lan, the belkin wireless is not a internet provider it just extends the distance of your internal wireless. some networks may be secured as well, sometimes you can only connect to unsecured networks unless you have the name and passcode for the secured network.

No internet connection on two desktops

Hi Tony, you think your laptop is connecting to your neighbor's wireless network. So try this.
1:Go to Control Panel, click on network and internet connections, double click NETWORK CONNECTIONS. Point your mouse to the WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTIONS. It should show that you are connected(and it will show the name of the network that you are connected to). If you do not recognize the name of the network that you are connected to then you are connected to your neighbor's network.

IF YOU ARE CONNECTED TO linksys--unsecured wireless network, there is a chance that your wireless router is not functioning at the moment.

Try this first and i will be waiting if you have a follow up problem.

Good Luck
