Question about Nakajima AE-710 Typewriter

Cannot reset margins, especially left.

Old tyewriter in storage at office. Just want to type envelopes, shipping
labels, etc.

Envelope address is printing at the very top of the envelope, in the center. I've tried adjusting the spacing (# inches from top) in Word under envelopes, but the printing stays in the same spot!


experiment with this

open a new document and type in the address where it would be on an envelope
when you have it in the center of the document go to print and see where it is on the preview
now while in that area click on page margins and move the margins to around what you have on the preview
then set as default
that should mean that what ever is going to be printed will appear in that part of the page or in this case the envelope as the printer and program is set to margins and everything inside those margins will be in the right place
basically it is trial and error but what you want to do is in that section of printing

Loading legal size envelopes


I've encountered this problem a few times. My solution wound up being a quality one. After several attempts that almost ruined my printer and getting several envelopes jammed. I went to an office supply shop and purchased an Avery white full sheet shipping label 5165 8-1/2", box of 100
this is for lazer and full size but other types are available from shops like Office Max

I believe this is the easiest way for your Epson to process large/thick media.

Can you print address on envleope


Yes you can print an address on an envelope. Do you have Microsoft Office? If so, click on new office document and click the tab that says Letters & faxes (for versions before 2007) and choose the label wizard. When the window opens, click the tab that says envelope instead of label and follow the prompts to type in the information you want to print on yoru envelope.

If you have Office 2007 - or newer, click on new office document and then choose blank document. Click on the tab at the top that says mailings and then choose envelope and type in the information you want to print on your envelope. Then click on file, and print. You will need to load your envelopes in the printers tray and put them in the correct direction according to the settings your machine requires. You might need to waste a few envleopes until you get it right.

Envelopes can be printed from tray 1 or 2. Select the type of envelope you are using from the PRINT dialog box or the driver. In your program, set the margins. Typical margins for a commercial #10 or DL envelope would be: Return Address Top margin 15mm(0.6 Inch) Left margin 15mm(0.6 Inch), Delivery Address Top margin 51mm(2 Inches) Left margin 89mm(3.5 Inches). For the best print quality, position margins no closer than 15mm (0.6 Inch) from the edges of the envelope. Avoid printing on the seams of the envelope. Envelopes with a peel-off adhesive strip or more than one flap that folds over to seal must use adhesives that are compatible with the heat and pressure of the printer fuser. the extra flaps and seals can cause wrinkling, creasing and feed jams, could even damage the fuser.

I have Printmaster 10 and 17. On 10, I can print to the edges of the labels and others things, on 17 I can't. I know that I reconfigured 10 to do this, but it was years ago and I can't remember the step...


Custom Paper Wizard PrintMaster® 17 Gold and Platinum include a Custom Paper Wizard that allows you to add new or unsupported paper stock to PrintMaster® for printing labels, stickers, envelopes, half-fold greeting cards, note cards, business cards and postcards. The remainder of this note describes how to use the Custom Paper Wizard. Follow the procedure below to add a new or unsupported paper stock to PrintMaster® 17 Gold or Platinum using the Custom Paper Wizard.

NOTE: The options that appear in the Custom Paper Wizard vary depending on the project type for which you are creating new paper stock.
  1. In the PrintMaster® Design Workspace, click Tools from the menu bar, select Custom Paper Wizard and click New Custom Paper. The Custom Paper Wizard window will open.
  2. In the Select Stock Type: list box, select the appropriate project type (Label, Sticker, Business Card, Envelope, 1/2-Fold Greeting Card, Note Card or Postcard) and click Next.
  3. If creating a Label or Sticker paper stock, select the label type. An example of the selected label type will appear on the right.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the screen that appears, select the similar stock type and enter the paper height, width and margins (if instructed to do so).

    NOTE: The Example box at the bottom of the Custom Paper Wizard window will explain what information is needed for the selected field (e.g., Paper Width, Left Margin, etc.) with both text and a diagram. The Example box on the left side of the Custom Paper Wizard window will show an example of the new paper stock as the fields are completed.

  6. Depending on the paper stock, the "Contains mid-page perforation" box may be active. If the paper stock that is added has a mid-page perforation, click once in the empty box to check it.
  7. Enter a Name for the new paper stock in the Name of stock: field and click Next. This name will identify the added stock type and will appear when creating a new project (e.g., Label, 1/2-Fold Greeting Card, etc.).

    NOTE: If adding a new paper stock for an Envelope project type, click Finish. A message will appear indicating that the new stock has been added. Click OK. The new envelope paper stock can be used when creating a new Envelope project.

  8. The next screen or screens that show will depend on the project type for which the new paper stock is added. Enter the needed information and click Finish. A message will appear stating that the new paper stock has been added.
  9. Click OK.
  10. To access the new paper stock, create a new project that uses the stock type (Label, 1/2-Fold Greeting Card, etc.) and select the name of the new stock entered in Step 7 (above) from the available stock list.
NOTE: If the paper stock that is added does not display in the list, click or go to Custom Paper Stock Does Not Display (Technical Note ID: 43399) for additional information.

Consult the "Using the Custom Paper Wizard" tutorial in the Help Center of PrintMaster® 17 for additional information. The tutorial can be accessed in the manner shown below.

Envelopes and labeles


Go the "print" dialog and select "settings". Ensure that the paper size, margins and orientation are not set for 8.5x11.  You did not mention the software you are using to print the envelopes/labels so this is the only guess I can give.   I have seen software that made me have to override the settings before.

Margin clearing and resetting


You cannot "clear" the margins. You have a left margin and right margin. They MUST be set somewhere even if they are set at the extreme left and right of the carriage. This part is IMPORTANT!!! Some functions (like right margin or margin release) may be written in a different color or shade. If they are, you must hold down the CODE or FUNCTION key while touching that function. In any case, the CODE key or similar will be the same color as the function you are trying to access. Get the printer where you want the margin to be. If you want the left margin set to the left of the current margin you will have use the MARGIN RELEASE key first. This may be labeled MREL or MAR REL or something similar. Backspace to where you want the margin to be then press the LMAR or LEFT MARGIN key. That will set the left margin at that point. Repeat the process for the right margin. Hope that helps Ed

This would depend upon the software you wish to use. For instance MS Word has an envelope printing utility built in. Access it through TOOLS > LETTERS & MAILINGS > ENVELOPES & LABELS, use the HELP feature to read help info on the settings required. If you wish to use a simlple text editor like Word pad, simply set the PAGE SETUP settings to reflect the media you are using; for instancce set paper size to ENVELOPE C5, and then the margins to something like Left = 60 Right = 100 Top = 80 Bottom = 50 Click OK and this will then mean when you print your document the text will be kept toward the center of the envelope. Change the envelope and margins to whatever suits you best. Slip the envelope into the printer (face up and flap to the bottom) and push the guard up. You should be good to go.
