My playstation 3 will not giv me back my disc and when i turn it on after a few seconds it starts making a rattling noise

It sounds like you have something blocking your PS3 disc or something is loose inside. If you cannot fix it by gently shaking/tapping the PS3 then i would have a professional look at it if it isn't still under warranty. If you can get to the problem without taking off/ripping the manufacturers sticker you may be able to see the problem yourself and fix it.

Switch power on then shuts its self off

Your system is overheating!!! there are three fixes for this..1 replace the thermal paste, 2 power fan is burned out need a new power supply, or use canned air to clean all the dust that has collected inside your system just dont hold the can too close you might blow something loose

Makes a noise when turned on. won't accept disc.

From what you describe it sounds like the drive is misaligned or something is indeed stuck in the drive. Contact Sony and see if the unit is still under warranty with this site:

Where is the cheapest ps3

On Amazon you can get a brand new ps3 with 120 gb hard drive for 300 dollars. You can also purchase used ones from at a slightly discounted rate.

You can also find them used and quiet cheap on auction sites or sites like craigslist. But be warned that used gaming consoles can go bad at anytime or may be broken before purchase.

Post back if you have any questions or comments. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

Loud noise when turned on

Loud grinding noises are always a BAD sign of things to come. It could have been that something was in the fans on your unit or it could have been the hard drive. Either way, I would return it if it is still under warranty. You will not regret this.

Clicking Noise

It depends where the clicking noise is coming from. if the sound is coming from the front of your Console Chances are there could be something loose within the PS3's Blu-Ray drive, if its coming from the back, there could be something affecting the cooling fans such as something stuck inside like dust etc.

if your PS3 is able to play Games and Blu-Ray Discs fine, i would seek Sony technical support, just to make sure everything is okay. you wouldnt want your PS3 to break !

Playstation 3 60GB

It needs to be thourouly cleaned every few months. That is a powerful fan and it sucks in tons of dust, even if you have the cleanest house. I never rrecommend the after market products. Sometimes they cause your system to have more problems. Untill you get it nice and clean inside, do not push it or the power supply and/or the mother board will blow something. Hope this helps.
