Checking the muffler for plugging is a good idea for getting top running, but your symptoms indicate that the engine is running lean. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are all tight including the mounting to the engine. Make sure the fuel filter is clean--does the primer button fill with fuel after several pumps? Check the condition of all fuel lines. Make sure the cylinder is not working loose from the crankcase. Check the air filter for plugging. If the H jet needle had been adjusted, I would suspect that it is not correct. The carburetor may need to be removed and serviced. Hope some of this helps!

get it running on idle, adjust the idle down till it runs hairy, then adjust low speed mixture screw till you get it highest revs, then keep repeating that till you get it idling normal.rev saw up max revs, adjust high speed jet, in or out till you get max revs, then screw out one quater of a turn. That lets enough fuel thru to cool the sparkplug tip..If thats no good, redo the carbi.Check the tiny filter under the needlevalve hole.Check the needlevalve diaphragm height.recheck gaskets are right way round

Yamaha PW50 stalls when throttle applied

Hi, Rick and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

Generally this is a fuel / air ratio problem. Usually it can be solved by a carb adjustment. On the carb there are usually two screws, one marked low or L , the other marked high or H. Low is your adjustment for idle mixture, high is for mixture at full throttle. The saw should Always be adjusted to run well during the cut. Make adjustments a little at a time, then try The saw. Continue small adjustments untill the saw is performing well at full throttle while Cutting.

Morning William:
Acceleration is the "L" needle, try 1/8 turn CCW. No better 3/16 CW.
Please install a new filter on the fuel line, you will be beat to death with carburetor overhauls if you do not.

  • CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
  • Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
  • Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
  • There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.

Chainsaw wont idle, stalls even when warmed up. Runs fine once started on high idle. Initial start w/ choke, saw bogs badly, better when warmed up (a bit challenging).

these are the main things that you need to do. Put a new sparkplug in it. Make sure the air filter is really clean. Set both the low and high speed jets out 1 1/2 turns. Snake the fuel filter out of the gas tank with a hooked wire and clean the filter on the end of the line. If none of this helps then you more than likely have a bad diapragm in the carb. and you will have to get a rebuild kit and install it. Hope this helps you. Jeepfxr

Run some combustion chamber cleaner directly into the carb. It is much better at cleaning clogged jets and orifices than commercial carb. cleaner. Pour in slowly at high idle while it is running. It will smoke like crazy. Bog it right out with the pour then let the machine sit for an hour then run the engine fast to complete the clean. Hope this helps!

Craftsman 16'' chainsaw, start with very high rpm, how to adjust ?

The H is for when your cutting,it keeps the saw from stalling. The L, is for the saw when at Idle. When the L ,is adjusted right, the saw should stay running ,and the chain should not move ,that is with the break in the off position. The H screw, should be adjusted if the saw bogs down when rev ed up. A good starting point for theses screws would be a turn and one half out.
