Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Have an RCA 20F511T television that continuously loses power to the CRT. It is almost like a capacitor charges and discharges causing the screen to go from full picture to a single line, back to the picture and then to the single line again. It is cyclic and gets worse as the set warms up Thanks Tom

I tried your advice. With no input signal TV comes on and stays on (tried for 5 minutes). However when ever I change channels, the tv actually goes off and then comes back on. I remember now that is how the problem started. Thanks

When I change the channels, sometimes it takes a short time for the channel to change, but most of the time, I can hear the crt discharging, the screen projects a series of snow, vertical and horizontal lines, then the channel comes in.

I turn my RCA HD52W59 tv on and there is no picture. The green power light blinks 5 or six times but no picture.

Check the Capacitors on the Power supply board. They look like little soda pop cans. They all should be flat tops. If you see some buldging tops? They are bad and need to be replaced. Please use caution though Unplug the tv and discharg all large capacitors before proceeding. Cause even an unplugged unit the Caps hold a charge that can kill you.

I have replaced 4 of the caps where around where the sound was coming from and the noise has stopped, now the TV is trying to come up but when it tries to power the CRT the same noise was down before goes...

U see or hear any arc on the CRT,than the CRT is dead,it not taking anymore high voltage charges. The FBT probally the cause, because you replaced capacitors around there before.

I have delayed power on with my HDTV RCA D52W20

Very common problem which is usually caused by the CP150, CP114 and CP120 capacitors needing replacement. You can get the repair kit by that same name from www.tvrepairworld.com which also has the Cd with instructions.

Ok...I just replaced the .0087uf 2000vdc capacitor that had burned out and the TV came on and worked for about 30 minutes. Now it shuts off and turns itself back on 3 times then it stays off and you cant...

Check for any capacitors that havnt blown but may be very leaky and unable to retain charge, often found surrounding the blown components. Also check the power suply circuitry for any shorted components that may have faulted causing the capacitor to burn out. Good Luck.

RCA 52'' Television problem

probably, there is some capacitors on the board that sometimes go bad if thy look or is some cases you have to feel if they are poked up then that is why the tv won't come on. A capacitor is a round cylindrical part that stands up on the board, it is like a battery it charges and discharges and if it looses this capability then your tv will not come on. I hope this helps.

Convergance Module

Click HERE for a detailed explanation of how to discharge a capacitor.
Also, the convergence modules will be located on the heat sinks on the main board. Here is a pic of the modules on the heatsink:

But once again , be VERY careful there is enough charge in a tv capacitor to kill you and will probably kill the capacitor (if it has a high enough capacity) due to the extremely high current flowing through it if you do that. The normal procedure is to connect both lead with an appropriate resistance. And not only once, because large capacitors can spontaneously rebuild some residual charge after being discharged (still enough to give you a serious shock). Normally both leads are connected through a fixed capacitor discharge bridge, which stays on the leads while working on the system. Once ready for testing, the bridges are removed.

I would still recommend getting a TV technician to repair this.

Rca big screen tv

How old is the set. im guessing from my research the set could be about 4 to 6 years old?.... this could be many things but first thing i would guess is the fluid in the tubes could be getting old..as they age the fluid grow alge and blurrs the image. also dirt and smoke tend to dirty the lens on the crt. most tv shops can change this fluid. If they do the tend to charge quit abit. our shop would charge between 250 to 400 to do this. I find this to be a rather involed repair. removeing 3 crt remove the fluid cleaning the tube and replaceing and adjusting them. so first thing is to clean the lens and the mirror
