Is wireless channel set on auto ?
Try adding three to the lowest channel number in case it is interference from a neighbour wi fi ?

SOURCE: NetGear Wireless Router - continous internet connection drops

Hi sharon,

If you  upgraded the software but still the connecitons is droping then contact the ISP (the internet service provider ), Because it is possible that they have something wrong thier side,,,THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN AS INTERMITTENT SYNC OR ROUTE,,, check the lights on your router , when the internet goes down which light changes,,,

and once you confirm that the problem is not with your ISP then you need to purchase a new router,

reply which is the ISP you are subscribing for.

Probably an issue with the DCHP broadcast flag in Vista. See the following article - I would recommend doing this first, if you have not already done so:

SOURCE: I have a NetGear Wireless Router which wont connect to internet.

Verify that you can connect to the internet without the router by hooking the cable from the dsl modem to your computers NIC.

If you can connect to the internet that way the problem is with the router. press and hold the reset button on the back of the router to reset it to the factory settings. (this just makes it easy to determine the problem) if this corrects the problem you can setup your security again

I should first thank you for the clear details you have given about your connection .I will try best to help you.The firmware version can be older so check the firmware version and upgrade it. Try to open the netgear smart wizard page in your wired computer by going to www.routerlogin.com or 192.168.1.1.The USERNAME:ADMIN and PASSWORD:PASSWORD(default). We can troubleshoot this only if this page is opened. In the netgear page at left side blue screen under maintenance->router status check the firmare version if its older version then click on router upgrade and check for the new version from internet(click on check tab) and upgrade the firmware.Hope this solves your problem if not try with different laptop wirelessly connect if you are able to connect then its the computer problem contact your computer vendor.Rate me if i have helped you that will motivate me.Thank you.Have a good day.

Losing network connection

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

This is only a problem with the firmware of your modem/router that you need to update it, because a network device like a modem and router that is working fine for severla years and suddenly stop working you just need to update the firmware of it and it should be working fine again, to update the firmware of the modem/router just need to call the manufacturer for that....

Hope that helps.........

Your issue is possible due to an antenna or proximity of the devices to the router
There is a way to build an enhanced antenna extender online. This may assist you in not \
having a dropped signal
check out this video

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Lose Internet connection on wireless network

Go to the router configuration and change the options so you could use both of them, there is an option says only one type of connection or both of them, change it to both, and everything will be fine.

Try manually add the network. If the problems continue, I would turn the laptop in for repair/replacement (if it under warranty).
