Getting Error message:

I have a HP Photosmart 3210 Printer and am getting error message:

"Carriage jam. Open door, clear carriage jam, and them press OK to continue."

Unplug the USB cable and the Power cable of the printer.

First of all make sure there is no paper pieces stuck inside the printer. Now ..!

Take out the Back door ( A door at the back of the printer which has two buttons at the ends of it which you can press to detach it from the printer )
from the back of the printer.

Once you take it out you can see the ROLLERS and the ROD which takes the printer page and rolls back to give you the out put.

Take a lint free cloth and clean the rod and rollers. Try to move the rollers in clock wise or anti clock wise direction. If it moves fine Other wise hardware issue.

Now attach the Back door back to the printer.

Now open the front door and move the carriage jam manually and check if it has any obstruction. If it has check if you can remove the abstruction if not and even then it is not moving smoothly. The printer has gone bad.

If it has no obstruction then follow this.

Now Reset the printer:-

To reset it.
Connect the printer power cord to the Wall Outlet or Wall Jack.
Make sure it is not connected to the Serge Protector or power strip.

Partial reset :-
Now on the printer itself. --> Press and hold the
# and 3 button at the same time. Now take out the Power cable from the back of the printer and wait for 20 sec. Now put the power cable back in the printer. Now release the two buttons. ( Note :- remember you need to hold down the # and 3 button the hold time )

(On the printer screen it should say part nvm reset.)

Now try to turn on the printer and check if it shows the carriage jam option. If it works perfect. If not then do this :-

Semi-Full Reset:-
Open the front door and take out all the cartridges from the printer.

Now close the door.

now clean all the cartridges using a lint free cloth and make sure you do not touch the nozzel of the printer.( nozzel :- from where the ink comes out ) while cleaning.

Now on the printer itself. --> Press and hold the
# and 6 button at the same time. Now take out the Power cable from the back of the printer and wait for 20 sec. Now put the power cable back in the printer. Now release the two buttons. ( Note :- remember you need to hold down the # and 6 button the hold time )

( On the printer screen it should say Semi-Full reset )

The printer might shut down automatically or may be it won't. At this point Put the cartridges back into the printer and then turn on the printer if it was shut down or If the printer is on turn it off and then switch it back on.

The problem should be resolved up till now.
If still the problem Exist Call HP as the product has gone bad.

Error message= open door clear carriage jam and

I think the message is instructions, as in
(1) open door (2) clear carriage jam (3) press enter
So there is something internal to the printer that makes it think it has a carriage jam, piece of paper under a sensor, dirty or stuck sensor.
If you can't find it using a bright light, try canned air.

My hp photosmart printer is saying Error carriage jam, open dorr clear carriage jam and then press Ok to continue. Which door should I open and how do I clear the carriage jam? Linda

Without any paper in the machine I would try powering off and powering on. Lifting the scanner lid will clear so the carrige goes back to the correct side of the printer. Even rebooting the printer and loading the software will sometimes cause the carriage to go back to where it was supposed to be.

Carriage jam error

The Jam error is most likely cause by one or more of the sensor flags these are the plastic usually black things hanging along the paper path. One of those are either stuck or broken. Check the path and look for those items.

Make sure you can move the print cartridge holder freely and that it isn't being blocked by anything inside the printer, also check if the cleaning station is in the right position, maybe it is locking the cartridges.

How do I get fix a "carriage jam"?

I was able to run run a piece of photo paper through a couple of times and printer now seems to be working again. The theory was that running a heavy piece of paper through might help clear little piece of paper that was not visible. The photo paper is less likely to tear if it gets jammed too.
