Audiolab 8000CD Player Problem

I have an Audiolab 8000CD player (old version about 10 years old). Yesterday it stopped playing a CD when it was more than haf way through and showed ERROR on the panel. I tried other CDs and these all stopped fairly soon into playing.

It seems like it could be some form of problem with the logic circuit but that's just my guess. Are problems like this easy to have repaired or will it cos more than the player's worth?

Thanks for both people who tried to help with this problem. Unfortunately, the mechnism is hidden beneath its locating holder and it's impossible to access either the laser of the its slider mechnism. I tried to remove it but met resistance and decided not to risk damaging it. I guess I'll have to take it to a tecnician.

Audiolab transport just stopped playing in the middle of a cd last night and when you put any cd in it says error. With the casing off the cd does not spin at all when inserted and the laser does not move. With other cd players I have had the unit always spins the cd when the draw shuts and the laser mechanism moves to scan the cd.

Do I need to send it to the repairers or should I replace the cd mechanism?

This may be a problem with the sled motor. This is the motor that moves the optical assembly in and out along a rail. Try openint up the unit and cleaning off the rail with a dry cotton swab. Be careful not the leave any fibers on the rails. Also, while you are in there, clean the lens using another cotton swab and alcohol. Report back with your results.

Its time to replace the optical unit ( lens ) of the CD player. Brace yourself the unit on some of those old players can cost more than a new DVD player.

Put a CD in and get message that says ER (Error?)...every CD that goes in spins, but does not play.

could be one of 2 things
use a cd lens cleaner to clean the laser lens .
or could be warped or damaged cds and player wont play them
also if they are burnt cd the player may be to old to read them.

Hi dr dray
Your player has a CDM12.1 laser transport fitted to it. They suffer a couple of problems that can be fixed that stop em from working so well. If you are handy with a screwdriver, then I can talk you through it.

PACKARD BELL CD/RADIO/MP3 PLAYER. MODEL PB OP 10

This is not for connecting an MP3 player, but rather for playing MP3-CD's. Using your computer and a CD burner, you can burn a CD with up to about ten hours worth of MP3s on it. The procedure for creating the disc varies depending on your burning software. In Nero, for example, you would select "Music" and then "MP3 Disc" and then select the songs you want to put on the disc. For other software you just select "burn a data disc" and then select the MP3 files you want.

Once you have a CD full of MP3s, put it in the Packard-Bell stereo's CD player, and you will be able to play all the MP3 files that are on the CD. THe advantage, of course, is being able to put ten hours on one CD instead of only 80 minutes.
