Hi,

It sounds like it may be a drain or timing issue. To determine the root cause I will need a bit more information.

If you turn the knob to spin with a full tub of water will it empty the tub of water?

    Phil,

The water cycle when you start will continually fill the tub. If you move it to the rinse cycle would do the same thing, it would continually fill the tub. You do not get any response by turning the control to any other settings. It acts like it is locked in the fill mode.

    Hi,

Thank you for the clarification. If the unit will not stop filling with water and overflows unless you manually stop it, then the failure is with the water level pressure switch or the tubing that operates this switch.

If you look inside the console behind the knob for load size this is the switch we are talking about. It will have 3 wires going to it and a piece of tubing.

The other end of the tubing is attached to the tub. Make sure the tubing has not come off either end and make sure the tubing is not kinked or broken. If the tubing is okay then the switch is bad.

I am having trouble pulling your model number up. If you could verify this number from the tag on the machine I can help you find the right part number.

    Thanks!

    Phil,

the model # 110.8752791 ser#MJ3015297 would the washer control switch that would need to be replaced.

    Hi,

I still am having trouble finding the information on your washer. Is there a tag inside the lid of the washer or on the rim around it.

The part will be the one that you turn the knob for changing the level of water.

    Phil,

that is the only model number that I can find. By looking up model #110.88752791 you can find the washer/dryer control panal diagram but the only problem is that the control knobs are reversed. But the number is 8752791. would the water level knob stop you from changing to the spin and rinse cycle?

  • Philip May 12, 2010

    Thank you

It is part number 10 on that image. 3362987 is the part number, but since it may not be the same model as yours we would have to find the number off of the old part to be sure.

The water level switch changes from fill to agitate. It does not allow the timer to move into the next cycle until it senses a full tub of water.

Maybe I am not fully understanding what you are experiencing. Let me repeat what I am gathering and let me know if I am mistaken.

The washer continues to fill and would overflow if you did not turn it off, this occurs in the wash or rinse it does not matter.

    Phil,

If the water level switch is bad would that cause you not to change your settings to any position. A bad water switch cuts any washer control cycles. To replace this water level switch you remove that control panal?

  • Philip May 12, 2010

The only cycles that would work would be fill or spin.

If you put the timer knob in a wash or rinse cycle it will just fill up with water. If you turn it to the end of the cycle where it is suppose to drain it should still drain and spin.

Yes, the control panel would have to come off to access the switch.

    Phil,

the only thing the washer will do is fill with water , will not rinse or spin. It doesn't matter where you turn the control there is no action. It doesn't even sound like it wants to change the settings.

  • Philip May 12, 2010

And it overflows if you let it continue to fill?

  • Linda Sinar
    Linda Sinar May 12, 2010

    Phil,

the water will overfill till you turn it off. So by replacing the water level switch that would solve my problem and the washer would work OK

  • Philip May 12, 2010

    Well,

Normally I would say yes, but since it will not go into spin then you have me worried.

There must be something else going on. The pressure switch will stop the filling but it will not change anything about the spin cycle.

I will have to see a wiring diagram of the machine to help you any further, without a model number that matches the machine I am at a loss.

i will try again tomorrow and try to find some other numbers that might help.

  • Philip May 12, 2010

Fantastic!, there may be a wiring diagram in the compartment between the washer and dryer, it comes off with 3 screws. if it is there it would be helpful

    Phil,

sorry that I didn't reply earlier but the washer is in a condo and the tenent wasn't home till this evening. I am going over ther tomorrow and try and get that information that you want. The washer tub was full of water and she is going to empty it for me. I will get back with you in the afternoon or this time tomorrow. Sorry that it is taking me so long getting all the information.

  • Philip May 13, 2010

No problem, I will not be on much tomorrow evening. But will check when I can

    Phil,

I looked the washer over and that was the correct Model number. I tryed to work the washer controls and didn't get much of a response. I was unable to locate the wiring diagram. I don't think I will be able to locate the problem which may be many. I feel like I am going to have to call a repair person to repair this washer.

I want to thank you for the time you spent with me, sorry that we couldn't find a solution to my washer problem. Thank you again

Will not rinse or spin

I have had similar situation with my top load washer over the years. It has been the timer 3 times and the water pump 1 time.
How I came up with it being the timer. The knob which you set it on the type wash you want. Put it on a different cycle and see if it completes the wash cycle. example if my washer is not working when I put it on heavy wash cycle I might put it on the casual wash cycle. If you change the wash cycle and it goes through the complete cycle it is probably the timer which is part of the knob you change for different wash cycles with.
If it stops when it is time to empty the tub on all cycles it may be the water pump which empties the tub. The one time I had a problem with the water pump it was a small piece of coal had the pump locked up. I never figured how it got out of the tub and to the pump but I put it back together and it worked fine.
It should not go into the spin cycle if the tub is full of water.
Two of the timers I bought cost 40 - 60 dollars. One was 140 dollars I bought a new washer that time because the washer only cost 220 dollars.

How to fix suds lock on Kenmore

The Sd code on most Kenmore Elite HE washers indicates a suds lock (usually caused by excessive suds do to overuse of detergent). Check for the presence of excessive suds in the washer. If you see a lot of foam, the code is likely caused by this problem. You will likely be able to drain the washer and spin out the clothes once the suds dissipate. Run an empty cycle with 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach through the washer to help rinse out suds residue. If you see foam emerging during the empty cycle, you may need to repeat this process. You can also use Washer Magic or AFFRESH to help clean suds residue out of the washer. These products are available at your local Sears store or the grocery store. Make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the appropriate quantity. You may need as little as a tablespoon of detergent in a high efficiency washer due to the low water level. You may need even less for a while since the clothes will likely have detergent still dissolved in the fibers that will emerge during subsequent wash cycles.

There are many different models of Kenmore Elite HE washers. If you do not see any apparent problem with excessive suds or need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore Elite HE washer.

Kenmore model # 110.244222300, Won't automatically complete wash

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Following is a Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Initial thoughts are that the Timer is worn / broken.

Here is a description of how to gain access to the console on these washers where you may be able to test the timer. (See the Whirlpool service manual for testing)

How do you clean the inside of your Front Loading washer?

This can be accomplished by running the washer empty for a quick rinse cycle. Add an entire cup of bleach at the start of the cycle. The bleach is effective at destroying organisms, such as mold and bacteria. However, running it once will not be completely effective. I suggest pouring another cup of bleach into the wash tub, after the cycle has completed. This will leave bleach as the standing pool and should prevent the growth of mold or bacteria. However, if you do this, before doing a load of laundry you should run an empty rinse cycle again, to avoid damage to the clothes from the bleach left standing in the wash tub.

20422 Top loading Kenmore washer stopped working totally. It just quit and won't drain and it won't spin. I hear the motor click on, then there is a humming, and then it goes off. It stopped during the...

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

NOTE: You do not have to drain the washer to complete this repair. Once the lid switch is adjusted or replaced, the water will drain. This will save you time in having to bail water.

Kenmore washer overflows during rinse cycle.

SOME OF THESE MACHINES HAVE TWO PRESSURE SWITCHES IN THEM, ONE FOR THE MAIN WASH WATER LEVEL AND ONE FOR THE RINSE WATER LEVEL. CHECK FOR A PLUGGED AIR PRESSURE HOSE FIRST AND THEN CHECK THE PRESSURE SWITCHES.
