Hard drives are used for storing files or loading applications. A CD-Rom drive is what you need to read cd's and a DVD-Rom drive which can read both. You cant place a cd, dvd or blu-ray disc into a hardrive because it is enclose and does not have and open/close button for the tray to eject or close
Its possible the drive is going bad or if you did not buy this new the previous owner may have taken the DVD drive out and replaced it with just a CD drive, one way to check this on your dell is to look at the picture below and you will see that it says dvd on it, Check to see if yours looks the same if it is not the same chances are it was replaced. You can always right click on the cd drive within my computer and go to properties and see what it says, Hope this helps you out and should you need any other help let us know thanks again.
The cover is warped. There needs to be just the right tension on the arm that lifts the eye of the drive to read disks properly try pushing down on the cover when you have it apart. So that you bend it alittle.
I also have a bose Lifestyle 48, and the same problem has happen to me where the DVD player would not open,
Unplug the unit, Wait a few seconds, after plugging the power back in, immediately hit eject so that the player does not have time to spin up and try to read the disc again
It sounds that there is a possible hardware failure concerning CD/DVD guide cover. We can try this to resolved that issue:
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Close & open the CD/DVD guide cover for three times and make sure that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted.
3. Close CD/DVD guide, Turn the printer on. If printer is ready, press the maintenance button.
4. Try printing again.
If the above step wont resolved that issue your printer may need to send to a nearest Epson Authorized Service Center.
