Question about ASUS M50 Series M50Vm-X1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 15.4' Wide XGA 4GB Memory 250GB HD

Open Question

I have a Asus M50VMseries with a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N ATA cd/dvd drive. About 3 months ago i installed windows 7. afterwards i had problems with burning music to cd's. As it would start the burn process and begin writing the songs to the disc it would freeze the drive and would continue to spin, and the only way i could eject the drive would be to turning the computer off manually with the power button and then ejecting the disc during start up.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I got the fix from Microsoft and run the exe to fix the "upper" something and after that it can see the CD/DVD drive. I think it is a Windows bug. Not a hardware failure. (Cost me a trip to local store)

Try running System Restore to a day just before this failed. It's a software issue according to other forum posts elsewhere.

SOURCE: my computer won't read dvd's or cd's

Hi ,

It seems that there is a problem with the driver, here are the steps that you can try to fix the issue .Right click my computer?click on manage?click device manager?click on the + sign next to cd/dvd drives(please check if there is an exclimation or a queston mark against the drivers listed) ?the drivers for it will be listed ?right click on each driver and click on uninstall?restart the computer. When it comes back to the desktop the drivers would be reinstalled now check if reads the cd/dvd .
The next thing that you can try is go to start?run?type in regedit?enter?then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system
\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}select this key and on the right hand side look for anything that says upper or lower filter key?there can be both or just one filter key listed, select it and then hit the delete key .Once that is done restart the computer and then check if its reading the cd/dvd.

Hope this resolves the issue ...all the best

Put the "System Restore" disk into the drive,
and restart your computer.
Choose to "change boot order" so that the first boot-device is your CD/DVD unit.
Your computer *WILL* boot from the disk in the drive,
allowing you to reinstall Windows.

DVD Drive not reconized,"HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N"

Dear Sir,

It is not problem with your hardware,it is problem with your operating system. This happens due to invalid registry entry on the system files, you may clean the registry by using glary utiliy or any other free registry cleaning software,it may solve your problem. If it is not you have to reinstall windows operating system by formatting your system drive.
if you find any difficulty post a feedback,we will glad to assist you.
I think it helps

My Cd-Rom doesnt work for my Acer Notebook 2930

Did it give any error code, like Error code 39? And does the DVD/CD Drive appear in My Computer?

Normally the CD drives use the default Windows drivers. Try right clicking the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA T50N ATA Device in Device Manager and choose uninstall. Then reboot the computer and Windows will find the device and re-install drivers automatically.

If you are still getting the error, it may be an update or some other program that added data to the DVD's driver data in the registry. Try this:

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without the quotations) and press Enter. Back up (File > Export) the registry before you make any changes)

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • Left Click and Highlight: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} **Make sure you choose this exact key**
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed on the right hand side, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
