Question about RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100
thanks for your assistance in many problems... i got a problem with my bb 8100 track ball.. there is no problem in selecting the icons upwards or downwards or sidewards... but when i am pressing the track ball to select them its not selecting them.. i try to press hard but no use.. can u please help me in this issue...
Get a sheet of paper or a pad of paper, put your cell upside down so the rollerball is touching the paper... Rub the phone on the paper quite vigerously. This has been a problem for me with many pearls - there is some dust / dirt lodged under the ball which stops it behaving the way it should. You may need to do this in all directions.

Hey! this is actually a flaw with the software on the newer blackberrys. Mine did the same thing, one day it was working fine in the morning, but in the afternoon, nothing. Would only show its display after plugging it in to a charger or usb cable, the trackball would scroll on the home screen, but if i wanted to click in on anything, forget it! none of the buttons worked, the entire keyboard? rendered useless. Take it in to your local wireless provider and have them take a look at it. My provider (Sprint) went ahead and ordered me a new one since it was still under warranty.

The metal ring and the actual ball can be removed but be careful and pick the ring up straight so you do not break any prongs from the ring, after removing them you will see a yellow piece of tape pull that up and clean under the clicker under the tape, put tape back on the center of clicker and place track ball back in, than put silver ring back in with three legs to the bottom hole at top...Hope this helps if not you can purchase new track balls at wirelessparts.com

The only way to fully get it up and running again is remove the trackball and replace the switch membrane underneath. If you want somebody else to do it for you, goto Blackberry Button Repair. If you want to do it yourself, here is a Blackberry Repair Guide that shows how, the part is available on Ebay.

“call” , “call end”, “A” keys and trackball select on my bb 9700 will not work! would this be a moisture problem? Will shift-alt-delete solve this?

Hey lads, suffering from the same problem however the return/enter button functions as a select button. A small bit of an inconvenience but grand nonetheless.
Hope this helps.
