Wireless problems. I have an asus f9s notebook. I bought this in Malaysia. Now I am in Australia, and am not able to get wireless, even though i can connect to a wireless hotspot. I have checked my driver, and this is working fine. i am not sure what to do. i am not sure if i have an antivirus installed before i bought this (at a computer shop). How can i disable this if i have it?

s4u311, and cropp, thanks. i will try these suggestions out, and get back to u.

tkw2201, this is the added info. I am travelling, so i generally try to connect to hotspots at campsites/hotels/cafes. The problem is that, when i try to sign up, internet explorer is rerouted to another site, which i don't understand!! therefore, i cannot get onto the sign up page!!! I have asked at these places if i need to pay first, or if there is a password, and there is none. I thought these were free for customers?

Secondly, i have a 90 day trial for the norton antivirus, but because i cannot connect to the internet, i cannot sign up!! I had set up windows defender, and there is a firewall, but i am not sure if this is causing the problem!!

so there you have it. I hope that this helps, as i am desperate to use the internet on my own laptop,

Thaks a million for all your help.

not sure what the problem is,

you have a wireless adapter in the laptop and can connect to a hotspot,

have you paid for the privelage to use the hotspot with a credit card?

are you trying to use it at home via a wireless modem/router?

why would you want to disable the virus protection? unless its norton's, but then you would need another package.

more accurate information would be help full

    thanks

    Terry

Ok well their are not many places you can get free hot spots,
you say that a site opens up in the explorer that you did not ask for ,maybe you have some spy ware on your laptop directing you to their site, even though your not connected, and this is stopping you getting connected in the first place.

run anti virus and anti spy ware software.

hope this is of help,

Terry

Hi dear

try to make your firewall off,

or try this

  1. Before you attempt to use any Wi-Fi network, find out what the SSID, Channel, Mode and WEP key are. Some Wi-Fi locations do not require a WEP key. Many Wi-Fi providers have this information on their web site or when you purchase access you will be provided the information.
  2. Ensure you have a firewall program installed and running. This will protect your data.
  3. Start up your laptop and once booted, look for the Wi-Fi network icon in the bottom right of the screen.
  4. Click on the Wifi Connection icon on bottom right of screen and you should see a window that indicates connection, strength and duration. Click on the Properties tab.

  5. wireless problems. - wirelessnetworkscreenbl.jpg

  6. The next window will show the type of networking card installed. Click on the Wireless Networks tab.

  7. 02ee437.jpg

  8. Once the Wireless Network Connection Properties window is open you will have two options depending on how you set up your laptop.
    • If you do not see any networks listed in Preferred or Available networks, you will have to manually add the SSID. Click on Add. You will have to enter the SSID and WEP key (if required). Click OK and you should then see the network you just added in the Available networks box.

    • If you see the correct SSID showing in the Available Networks, then you need to click on Configure in order to enter the WEP key if that is required.

  9. In the next window, enter the SSID for the Wi-Fi network you want to access. Make sure you do not have CAPS lock or NUM lock while entering the information. If a network key is required, click on "Data Encryption and then enter the Network key you have been provided with. Again make sure you do not have CAPS or NUM lock on. Click OK when entered. If you have entered the key incorrectly a message will pop up and you will need to re-entwireless problems. - fccfda9.jpg

  10. fccfda9.jpg

  11. Next go to Start - and where it says Connect To click on that and you should see choices like in the graphic below. Click on Wireless Network Connewireless problems. - 34b0a7b.jpgt should work.

There are occasions when the connection doesn't work, in these cases check your firewall software and make sure it allows you to connect to the Wi-Fi network. To check this, disable your firewall software and check the connection again. If you can connect with the firewall program disabled, you change your settings. If your firewall program is not the problem check the SSID and WEP key information that you entered. Both of these are case sensitive. If you had obtained SSID information from the Internet, check with someone in the establishment to see if the SSID has been changed.

oke post in me back

i hope this usefull for you

thanks

All you need is a power plug adapter. At Radio Shack you can find one for US plugs to any other plug in another country. They will be able to order a reverse adapter, one to adapt Aussie plugs to US plugs. I'd start there and they'll find you one no doubt about it.

no you are probably unaware that you have connected to a neighbours connection who stupidly has not security encrypted the router.

It is illegal to use somebody elses connection without their permission, so i would suggest turning off the wireless adapter (slider button at front of notebook) until you get your own wireless connection.

Hello sandeep

Since the problem here is compatiability issue. Suggestion: why dont you try other video chat programs. Skype is also good for video chatting and free to use. If all doesnt work you should consider asking for a replacement.

Best of luck
