Re: start my notebook averatec 2300
Ouch! Have you tried taking the battery out to see if it will
run on AC power when the battery is not installed? Sometimes a bad
battery can kill the system.
Do you have a meter that you can measure the output of the AC adapter
with to see if it is correct? If not, any chance you could swap
adapters with someone for a while to see if theirs works on your
computer and vice versa? A local shop may also be able to test your
adapter to see if it's working.
I suggest replacing the battery. Also have you read your manual? Page 42-46 address power issues and suggest that you basically purge your battery every three months by going into the BIOS. I also know that on some laptops they just won't work at all without a battery in the battery compartment so I'm not sure removing the battery and testing on AC power will address your problem. Again, I think I would just purchase and replace the old battery.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

have you tried running it in safe mode? if it starts up then go to your start menu>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. go to a date before hand were it did work and your computer will restore itself.
do u have the power adapter plugged in, or are you using battery power? the first thing i would try is disconnecting the battery. just compleatly remove it and set it aside. then try starting it with the adapter plugged in. sometimes the batteries go bad and are corrupt. i had this happen to a compaq laptop a few years back. after i got rid of the battery it worked fine. if it works u can always buy a new battery.
If you get the Windows splash screen (which you indicate you do), then the system is working. Unfortunately, when Windows starts, it is trying to use the video card drivers. It appears that the drivers may be corrupt. The initial way to check this is to hit F8 as it is starting to see if you can start windows in safe mode. If you can, go into the device manager and remove the display adapter you see there. When Windows starts, it should find it and either ask you for the drivers or start with generic drivers that work until you provide the correct ones.
My 2300 started same problems in Dec 08 (almost 2 years old) Its an overheat problem! With black screen the two blue lights an bottom left are on. Leave powered up and in an hour or so will shut down on its on, then will start back up normally but shut down again in about an hour.Correction 1. pull off back cover, blow out the dust. 2.Go to set up (F2 on power up and run fan cal) 3. Take the back cover off you will feel how hot the CPU and hard drive are that is because vents are too small for an aging laptop. Now take the cover and drill a double line of holes on each side of the hard drive vents, Next over the CPU (where the fan blows in air, drill a triple line of new vent holes in the cover). A 5/32 drill will be about right. You may also wish to purchase an inexpensive Belkin laptop cooler. About $19 at Best Buy. This solved my problem as I do like this little one for travel Glenn New Mexico
