Provided your problem deals with taking a harddrive out of an HP Media Center M7160N, and placing it into an HP pavilion a800n; the answer is NO. The M7160N uses a SATA harddrive. The Pavilion a800n uses an IDE harddrive. (IDE is also referred to as PATA) Supporting Data: Specifications for the Media Center M7160N, Specifications for the Pavilion a800n, Suggest you use an external enclosure. Obtain one for a 3.5 inch SATA harddrive. Put the M7160N SATA harddrive in the external enclosure, plug the USB cable from the enclosure into the a800n computer. (Into any available USB port on the Pavilion a800n computer. Any unused USB port) Example of a SATA external enclosure,

Guessing its a HP desktop and u wanna put it in there ? First thing is the interface - u hard drive is SATA or IDE ? Should be no prob either can get connections for either.
Assuming u have an operating system on it, it probably wont boot fully or will boot and give u a blue screen...because the operating system will see this as a new computer.
Best option would be to hook it up as a secondry drive / or slave drive...boot the machine and get your data off it first then decide what to do next -- let me know how u got on ..

Replacing a motherboard

It's not hard, if you know what you are doing. If you don't, and don't have an experienced person to help, I recommend having an expert do it. Remember, when a motherboard is fried, some wiring may also have been compromised. Be sure to weigh the cost/benefit. If it's an older machine, it probably won't pay. If you have files that you do not want to lose, you could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a "USB Hard Drive Adapter" (available fairly cheap online) to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive. That way, at least you may not lose your files.

Hard drive Compatabilaty

That would depend on the motherboard. But, if you computer was made for windows XP then I would say that should be fine. To be sure, just put the part number of the old one into your search engine and it will tell you the drive interface you need. The ATA 100 is the most likely interface you need.

I have a Sony VGN-FZ150E notebook that died. The Motherboard is fried. Can you tell me the best way to get it replaced or replace it myself? Any idea where I can get the part the cheapest?

The motherboard on that laptop is a real bear to replace. Your best bet is to find another dead one but that has a good motherboard (which is very hard to do) and try to make a frankenstein out of the two. What I would do if it were mine is just buy a new laptop and an external drive enclosure for the hard drive out of the dead Sony, then transfer the files from the old hard drive to the new laptop. Good luck!

No Mother board is compatable.
The Motherboard and hard drive are paired and cannothe be replaced.
The best thing to do is to buy a new computer and use the Harddrive as a slave on the new one.
