Need to replace the tension screw for the chain on a mcculloch chainsaw Where can find/ purchase this screw?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Usually the screw is a common hardware item, but the nut is special in that there is a 'tang' on the nut that engages a hole in the drive end of the bar. Hope this helps!

There are about 300 different model McCulloch chainsaws. Not all use the same screw or adjustment block, which model do you need? Reply below please.

Change chain

Loosen and remove bar lock nuts and cover. screw tensioning screw to loosest point. wrap chain onto teeth of drive sprocket, then within grooves on bar. Be certain cutting edges are facing forward. Look at chain before removing. set bar with new chain to ensure the tension pin aligns with bar tensioning hole. Replace cover set nuts loosely. Tighten chain to about 1/4" out of groove when pulled on (wear gloves). Tighten nuts, spin chain to see it moves freely but does not hang free og bar groove. re-tension as necessary. Happy cutting!

Replace mcCulloch chainsaw chain tension screw

It will either be in between the two nuts that secure the guide bar OR alongside the engine block right up next to the guide bar and facing forward. You may have to clean the area of debris and impacted sawdust to find it. Clockwise tightens the chain and counterclockwise loosens it. Elevate the tip of the guide bar with the securing nuts LOOSE a bit while making the adjustment then tighten securely AFTER correct tension is attained.

How to tension the chain on a mcculloch 2618cav chainsaw?

Slacken off the two 13mm nuts on the cover, leave them finger tight, clean away the saw dust from the front of the saw to expose the adjuster screw, this is in the front of the cover, it will reqiure a flat blade screw driver, screw in clockwise to tighten the chain, when adjusted correctly it should fit snuggley all the way around the bar, with a gloved hand pull the chain around the bar manualy, it should pull freely with very little resistence.

Chain keeps comming off my chainsaw even when tensioned

Check the Sprocket to make sure it isn't wore down. If that doesn't work, tighten the chain and start the saw, let the chain rotate around the bar and adjust the tension on the chair accordingly. Also, overtime chains do stretch and no matter how much you tension them they will still be loose. You can take your chain to a repair shop and have a link taken out or purchase a new chain. Hope this helps.

Can't keep chain on tight. What are tightening procedures?

On the chain housing you need to find the screws to open the and expose the chain support.once there look for another screw that is holding the support and had a groove on which you can move front and back, that is the blade tension that need to be applied.Once the blade is tensioned tight the screw and mount back the housing.

Need to replace the tension screw for the chain on a McCulloch chainsaw Where can find/ purchase this screw?

You provide no model number. There are over 300 different McCulloch models. If I give you a part number that does not fit your saw which of us is at fault?

McCulloch IPLs (all)
The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for the oil system is sketchy at best. Oiler components and part numbers are listed but may be on different illustrations. They are also beneficial with disassembly/reassembly:
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/McCulloch/139.59.html

This works for older Macs but MTD and Husqvarna saws often deviate from the explanation. It will give you a little guidance if you try to locate an IPL.

Chainsaw chain will not tighten on the guide bar

The two nuts on the bolts for the chain bar, need to be loosened.

Then the tension screw is tightened by turning it Clockwise. (To the Right)

If the chain doesn't tighten,

1.Insure that the nuts are loose enough, so that the chain bar may slide.

2.Insure that the tension adjusting screw does not have stripped threads, nor the threaded part of the case it screws through.

Need to replace chain on 450s mcculloch chain saw

You might want to purchase a combination set with a new bar and chain, if so, Oregon #108764 is the 16" length set.

If you only want either a chain or bar, then the following are the correct ones for your chainsaw:

Chain 16" @ 3/8" pitch = #91VX054G (low profile, semi-chisel)

Bar 16" = Oregon #160SDEA318 (w adjustable chain tensioner)
Bar 16" = Oregon #160SDET318 (no adjustable bar slot for use on chainsaw originally equipped with the Intenz bar only)

Hope you find this very helpful and best regards!
