Question about Refrigerators

Vibrating noise from freezer/fridge?

I have had a GE fridge for 2 years. Refrigerator on bottom and freezer on top. Last week a noise started, sounds like regular "running" noise but louder. And 2 times it is incredibly loud. Does not stop when doors are opened. Louder when freezer door is opened. When touch back wall of freezer sound "changes". Please help its driving me nuts!

Take the cover off the fan in the freezer section and see if the fan blade is loose or hitting ice the blade just pushes on make sure the mountings are tight its probably the blade but you might need to replace the motor if i reamber correctly on the cover there is a screw at the bottom you remove then slide the cover up and its on hooks plastic hooks built on the cover ok

Freezer on bottom is cold, refrigerator on top is warm. 2 days before failure there was a vibration noise intermittently between fridge and freezer that stoppped if freezer door was shut hard

This is a little strange to hear but something caused the vibration. Closing the doors hard or soft may make big changes in sound because of pressure change. I just want to know if the compressor is purring away without overheating. Anytime there is a restriction in ventilation the evaporator fan will struggle to push the air to the freezer and enough to refrigerator side to maintain safe temperatures. On the bottom even if the fan stopped the bottom would work because it is below and cold is heavier than warm. I will look over your parts breakdown to see what vent, dampers or fans that may cause this, work with me on this and I will help you solve this. Thanks Sea Breeze

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.

Refrigerator Leveling Problem

Buy an inexpensive spirit level ( regular level sold everywhere) and check the level for yourself.. If you push/pull on the fridge..does it rock at all.. if so.. it may be level but the adjustable feet aren't making contact sufficiently to keep it from moving.. If after you've verified it is level.. you can do a few diagnostics on your own.. you can try removing everything on the door inside.. then listen for that noise.. if still there.. remove shelves and food etc.. see if it is still there.. check the snap on grill at the bottom to make sure it is secure.. check the hinges on the doors and make sure everything is snug.. make sure ther isn't anything on top of the fridge that might be vibrating when the fridge cycles.. You have many options here.. Hope this helps..

Ice doesn't dispense and both freezer and refrigerator aren't cold enough

yes. pull out the frig and look on the back. facing the back on thr right hand side there a rectangle metal plate. under that plate is the main computer board that controls the whole thing. they have been causing alot of problems one of which is the one your having. replace that board and your problem is solved
