Thank you profpat for your assistance, an old man of 70 years sure appreciates people like yourself to help get us through.
The problem just started last week and i have owned the new monitor for 3 months, hooked to the same computer, mac g3 350 and it worked perfectly up until last tuesday, started computer and "imput not supported" dances across the screen, for about 30-45 sec until the computer is loading the HD, then it comes on and acts normal.

I TRIED TO RESET THE RESOLUTION. THE SCREEN WENT BLANK AND THE MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAYS IMPUT SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE

Hello,
I believe the max resolution this LCD can support is 1440 x 900 / 75 Hz. If you set your display resolution higher then that, you will receive the input signal out of range error. Your LDC turns off to protect it self from the invalid settings. If you can not change it back once your PC boots to windows, you may have to do it in save mode by pressing F8 once you power on your PC and before the windows loading screen starts.
Regards, Chris

The screen says imput not supported but I can hear the startup sc

You need to set your PC video resolutiotn to the native resolution of this monitor, 1440 x 900 @60Hz. You get the message because the old setting for your old monitor (crt?) is too high for your Acer. You may have to hook up your monitor and set up the new resolution. Or you boot up in safe mode, set the resolution to 640 x 480, reboot into regular mode, reset the resolution again to be 1440 x 900 @60Hz

Computer screen says imput not supported what do i do?

i believe at boot you should hold f8 for advanced booting options, and then select safe mode, which will start the computer in a lower resolution graphix. from there, set the resolution down on the display. right click on the desktop and select properties or personalize, then look for the display setings for screen resolution. its prolly set to 1680 x 1050, and needs to be set to something around 1280x768 or something: maybe its set to a different aspect ration or just plain different size.

Monitor comes on for seconds and then goes black

This may be because the resolution that is set in your user profile when you log on has been changed to a resolution not supported by the monitor. The best way to fix this is by going into Safe Mode (press F8 as the computer starts to load Windows) and change it to a lower resolution once you get logged in. 1024X768 is a pretty safe resolution to start with. Then restart and see if that fixes the issue.

'input not supported'

First install another monitor so Windows will load.
Then right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties", then click on the "Hardware" tab and click on "Device Manager" button. In the list and click on the "+" sign next to "Monitors" then right click on the monitor in question and select "Uninstall", then click "OK" and close all windows and "Shut Down" your PC. Install the monitor in question again and start your PC and wait 10 minutes or so and XP will set up the monitor like it's the first time you installed it.
I hope I understood your issue and Good Luck.
