My T20 suddenly "died", black screen, 1 diode shining. After a certain time, it can be started again, than is working cca 8min and than dies again. When started again immediately after this, it does not start or does the same after a short time. No beeping on start. Fan assembly looks OK, fan is shortly working on start. This is with W2K, but Linux live CD is the same. According to MobileMeter CPU temp is 39oC, HDD 41oC. Please any suggestion? THX a lot.

Possible... run your unit in safe mode then observe it...if happens again check the memory ram... if not your hard disk is infected with virus...try scanning /cleaning drive c:

My x205-s9349 toshiba laptop is getting hot in the area of #1 hard drive and shuts down. I have vacuumed the case out and still does the same thing. this laptop has run hot ever since it was new.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a can of compressed air to do this. Use a fan assisted laptop cooling pad for addition cooling.

My dell latitude D610 laptop gets heated up after a few minutes I the start the laptop and eventually shuts down.

  • There is a possibility that the fan of your laptop is not working. Make sure when you power on the laptop the fan is running. And if the fan is not working replace it so that your laptop will not heat up and it will not shut down.
Feel free to reply this solution if you have further questions. Thank you.

Asprie 3690 acts like it overheats, has no battery life unless plugged in, going to order a new one. but runs really slow on start up and shut down and through out programs. Can hear fan running, then...

The overheating is causing this. Still, if you think that battery is doing that, take off your battery pack and turn it on with the adapter only.
Overheating is a very common problem with notebooks, To solve the overheating problem you will have to clean the heat sink and the fans of the laptop.
If you need assistance on how to clean the fan and the heat sink, please comment and I will be there to help you out.

If the fan is spinning quite fast then the overheating problem is most likely dust clogging the fan and heat-sink assembly. Blasting air into the fan and heat-sink can only make it worst as you are forcing the dust further into the heat-sink fins.
Remove the panels covering the vent and fan/heat-sink, loosen the dust and vacuum to remove this dust off the fan and heat-sink. Check the fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
After re-assembling and boot up, if you still have heating problems, addition cooling can be employed by purchasing a laptop fan assisted cooling pad. Place the laptop on top of this pad and the fans on the pad will direct additional cooling air to the laptop's vents.

Acer aspire 5610-4654 keeps shutting down

Did you noticed overheating (hot laptop areas, fans spinning like in crazy?)
Can you start the laptop again just after it shuts down itself??

It could also be the CPU "heat sensor" causing a "thermal" shutdown.
Try a hairdryer on cold blow, and point it in where the CPU cooler is!

see does the laptop stay on longer. Thermal paste dosen't usualy "go" unless the heat sink has be detached from the CPU.

I think as you say either the fan or I think the heat sensor.

Dell Inspiron 8600 - overheating and shutting down

Start by cleaning the fan and heat sink. Dirt or dust build up can cause them not to work as efficiently as they should. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might consider replacing the fan and heat sink or purchasing a cooling pad.
