Question about Philips Magnavox 55P9271 55" Rear Projection Television

55' Magnavox Big Screen

I was wondering about a 55' Magnavox Big Screen that we just purchased. The people we bought about it from said the projectors needed to be adjusted, they also said they had thought it was an easy adjustment, easy enough for you to do yourself with easy instructions, now is this the case or is it really an expensive fix? We haven't fully purchased it so we can still get out of the deal, but it's a good deal, do we just buy it and fix it or get it fixed, or not buy it. By the way it's about 6 years old. Thanks

Projection televisions do NOT generally offer easy DIY (do it yourself) solutions to problems. If they are telling you that the projectors need to be adjusted, you probably are better off buying a television elsewhere because they don't sound like they know what they are talking about. If the television uses CRT technology, you may notice color halos and bad color mixes if the red, green, and blue projection tubes are not aligned. Alignment should (in most cases) be done by a professional.

Have you turned on the television and seen for yourself what the problems are? If you know of a good repair center, get a quote from them after you have seen the issue(s) first hand, then make your final purchasing decision. It is terribly difficult to diagnose without seeing the condition of the television and images it produces in person.

It depends on how much they want for the TV.
The adjustments could be a simple fix by replacing the convergence ICs on the TV, if you are seeing double images or the colors are distorted.
Just out of curiosity, how much is the seller asking for the TV?
