Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Bose Lifestyle 5. I have read, in a number of places, that you have schematics for this unit. I need to see the schematic for the bottom board. The "System Control" Input Jack Number 1 broke and I want to figure out the easiest way to fix the problem. I have experience working on circuit boards but, as I'm sure you know, am totally blind without a schematic. I've been nursing the problem along for years with careful placement of the cord and gentle persuasion but none of that works any more. I can tell by looking into the jack that some of the metal is gone when compared with the number 2 jack just below it. I am really hoping that there is a way to make number 2 do the job for me but number 2 is not even mentioned in my owners manual. I will greatly appreciate a PDF or HTML of the manual to stanshirley@gmail.com. Thank you for your assistance. Stan

Thanks for your response. I already looked at this site but am not willing to spend eleven bucks for a document with a title that has very little similarity to the model description on my unit. I'm also not convinced that it would have what I want even if it is for my model. There is no mention of a schematic which is all that I need. I already know how to take it apart --- no small accomplishment, by the way. It's too bad that they won't, at least, let you take a peek at a picture of the unit and the table of contents. Thanks, again, for responding so quickly. Stan

I had already taken the board out. The problem was, in fact, complex because this particular jack has 16 different solder lugs to the board. I used a VOM to make my own, rough schematic and fixed the problem.

the unit is indeed called cd 5 cause I looked in some other places..I know that is frustrating to buy something that you can not be sure that at least it is what you need...anyway ...meanwhile I keep searching for that ..who knows maybe I find it somewhere ..
usually no company release this kinda stuff cause it means lost of money for them ..if there are available somewhere are posted by those like us ..whom just do it from frustration ..
I will look on the sites with parts for sell for this model ...they usually have a kinda part scheme that you can see the part by the number and look for it in a list ...maybe Im lucky and get something that at least will make a picture ...Anyway ...if i understood correctly and you just need to change the jack plug ...it is just kids stuff and you dont really need to spend money for a scheme ..and not even here ...:d\Juat open it with care ..there will be a few screws and some snap clicks ..and when you get to the board ..stick numbers on anything you take apart ..and even make photos if you have a digital camera ...thats my way to do it ..and I have opened stuff I mever even heard of before that day ...and I just measured the parts ..and replaced anything with no flow.....the parts have numbers on them ..or just measure them and look on the net for similar part ..and thats all...I understood that you are handy with the hand-welder ..and that's ok ..I'm sure you will manage for a jack plug ...if it is from the sound there will be just 3 points to weld ..left right and the null ..

I was sure you will handle by the way you approach it ...It was clear hat you have knowladge and thats why I suggested to go ahead...cause when is up to exit plugs ..there is not that complicated if you take notes,,and analyze things...I guess you just paired the pins ..and draw your own map around...Good job ...even If I didn't helped too much ...Have a great day..

Not good surround sound Is the bose lifestyle 5 support 5.1 surround sound?

The Bose Lifestyle 5 is not a 5.1 surround sound system. It is a 2.1 sound system, meaning it is stereo with a subwoofer/bass unit. Having two speakers that can be angled in different directions, the Bose Lifestyle 5 employs Bose direct/reflecting technology, providing greater audio presence. Still, it is definitely not a surround sound system.

Bose Lifestyle 5 ~ dead display fix

Hi the fix for a dead display is a faulty capacitor. Depending upon which board version you have, you need to replace the 33 uF / 63 volt capaitor. On some units this is C19 on the display board, on other units this capacitor is mounted on the main board and re-numbered, there is only one 33 uF on the unit so you should be able to find it.

Yes I think you're right.

You are lucky this is all it is.

Bose do not seem to supply spare parts direct to the consumer, and I'm afraid lightening isn't covered in their warranty. If you want to return the unit to Bose, first you need to call them to obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. This number helps them track the status of your product. In the United States, call 1-800-367-4008. Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM ET and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET. International customers, click here to find the facility closest to you.

Have the following information available when you call:
  • Product model and series number, if applicable
  • Serial number(s): Please note that Lifestyle® systems have separate serial numbers for the music center and Acoustimass® module
  • Date of purchase
  • Details of the problem you are experiencing
  • If your product is no longer covered under warranty and you plan to send it to Bose Corporation for repair, please have your credit card number available.
Alternatively - find another damaged system with a different fault, and swap assemblies.

Hope this helps.
