Question about Brother MFC 490cw Color Inkjet Multi-Function Printer

No ink on printed pages

When I print a document the printer acts if though it is printing but, when the printed pages come out they are blank with no words.

Try to pull out the ink cartridges. Then after 1 minute put the cartridges on. Then it will initiate head cleaning. Just perform the head cleaning to clean clogged nozzles. Then try to print a test page.

    Thanks, for your help. I knew when I was copying the documents, that it was not the ink. I had just replaced the ink a few days ago. That worked and it copied all 19 pages. You are great!

Either ink tanks are empty or you need to accesss the printer software / find the "nozzle check", and "nozzle clean program"

Just getting blank pages


It would help to know what kind and model printer.

Some printers can get clogs and not print. Those mostly have "head cleaning" in the maintenance tab in the print setup screens.

Many printers have ink gauges, but they really don't measure how much ink is in the carts, it's easier for them to count how much ink has likely been used. Sometimes you actually run out of ink before the printer think you're empty, though mostly it's the other way around.

Make sure your document is not blank, and the document has no blank pages below the first page.Also check your print Q and clear it before printing again.

Prints no ink


Try to re-seat the cartridges in the printer. Open the printer cover > remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick you printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in, and re-plug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be due to a clogged print cartridge nozzle. Please follow the steps below to fix print quality issues with your model:

  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 1300 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center / All-In-One Center.

From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through to clean the print cartridge nozzles.

After printing the test page, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Start by uninstalling the printer software... then re-install the newest software from the HP website. Always works for me...

check if there is still ink in the cartridge.also use a soft cloth and little water to clean the nozle of the cartridge.

Blank pages


You might want to start by doing some general print quality troubleshooting, including printing a test page. The test page should give you an indication if you have issues with print cartridges. Also, some printers may not print at all if even one of their cartridges is empty:

The other thing that occurred to me is that your document feeder could be pulling in more than one sheet of paper at a time, this means it would output blank sheets as well. Here's a web page that describes the problem and what to do about it:
