Question about HP Compaq dc5100 Microtower PC Desktop

When i shut down I lose internet access

Everytime I shut my computer down....when I reboot I lose internet access. It states "Windows cannot detect any wired or wireless network card installed". I am on a secure intenet line. I call I T support and they say I have a virus which blocks my access. I call later and talk to another tech and he takes over my computer and after a lengthy time he gets us connected. It seems to me it has something to do with my internet protocall or proxy. I T ask always about a certain set of numbers that must be aligned I believe to have access.........when they are aligned we get the access. But that might be after they get the network card working.
Sometime we try many attempts to restart and then if we're lucky the network card connection is made. I know we have a network card but what is happening and how do we correct this problem? I shut down the computer on accident....last time this happened was September 2009. It's the same problem every time. We were told a complete cleansing of all software is needed but I don't believe this as the internet works fine as long as we don't shut down. Somthing happens when the computer is shut down and then is rebooted. Is a simple solution to reinstall a new network card ? I am convienced after an hour or so the IT people will get it up and running but they are not fixing the real problem. I need the solution so I can get this desk top running by myself. All connections to my router are in place , I have two other computer that have the same secure access through the same router without any problems.

Gateway is responsible for any hardware issues with your computer. Neither the internet service provider nor the operating system manufacturer has anything to do with the hardware. Your Gateway has a power on button on its case. You may have to hold the button in for several seconds to shut it down but as you have not accessed the OS, that won't harm the hard drive. Once it's shut down, repress the power button to turn it back on and hopefully it will power up completely to the Windows or Linux OS you are using.

Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

I got a virus (I believe it was a trojan horse), I removed it my self, but now my computer is slow, and I can only use Opera as an internet browser (I'm using it right now). I was wondering how to reboot...

Without a proper antivirus, your computer remains vulnerable to various malware, spyware, spam, rootkits, Trojan horses, and other viruses. Keyloggers and rootkits attack your PC and start destroying and corrupting the Windows registries. A corrupt Windows registry disturbs and slows down the processing of your computer. Hence, you suffer slow speed and hanging problems while working on the computer.
Avira AntiVir Professional is an excellent program to detect and remove any virus or malware threat. With advanced heuristic analysis and detection technology, the software application keeps checking for malpractices that might be carried in your computer.

My acer aspire 5740 with windows 7,freezes everytime i connect to the internet.pls help asap.

If your computer or laptop freezes on a regular basis, chances are it has acquired a virus or a series of viruses.

Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" when your computer is frozen. This will launch a Windows Security window.

Hit "Shut Down..click on the "up" arrow beside a red button located at the bottom-right corner of your screen. Select "Restart." Wait until Windows finishes the rebooting process.

Launch your web browser and install an antivirus program. AVG, Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky are all reputable makers of antivirus software and downloads

Restart your system after you have finished installing the antivirus program.

Launch the program and run a complete virus scan. Wait until your antivirus program completes the task and detects the virus infection. Follow its prompts to remove the virus.

Run virus scans at least twice a week. This will prevent your computer from getting another virus that causes problems such as the screen freezing.

Install MS office home and student 2007

Reboot

Shut down any active protection software such any antivirus, antispyware, antitrojan, or registry monitoring software.

Try to Unistall by using the install disk. It should detect a previous installation and ask if you want to Install, Repair, or Uninstall.

If that fails, download and run CCleaner - Use the Cleaner and Regisrty modules default settings
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Reboot, and shut down active protection software.

Download and run Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/290301
Remove the applicable entries.

Reboot, and shut down active protection software.

Reinstall

Hope this helps - good luck!

Computer keeps shutting down everytime I try to do a full sweep

Yes, this seems to be a common problem with SpySweeper.
This may not be a solution, but why not try http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

It scans your PC online, and its free. I thought I removed all spyware/malware etc from my PC using my regular anti-virus and spyware detect software (which I use almost daily). I just tried this online yesterday and it detected 2 Malware and 3 adware programs still on my PC, plus a lot of other stuff..

Try it. Its free after all :)

Slave Drive not recog in my computer but it is disk management with no drive letter

A quick thing to try Is
remove the 80gb from ide cable and power plug and set the 20gb back as master.
boot into windows from 20gb 1 time ,
then shut down hook the 20gb as a slave and the 80 back up as master
Allow windows to find new hardware , "watch closely down by clock ". It will tell you when windows has finished and will say you might need to reboot before new hardware will work properly
After rebooting Both should show inside My computer
Good Luck I hope this helps
